I have been searching for Christmas gifts for a couple of relatives, and have come across some nice pieces that have Steiner certs/stickers.  Some of these certs have a bar code, some do not.  Is there a way of telling a counterfeit cert/sticker from a real one?

Here is the piece I am interested in; does the cert and sticker look genuine?  I am usually paranoid about buying Steiner pieces that aren't directly from Steiner due to the possibility of counterfeited certs.

Share any evidence, experiences, and input you can offer!

Thanks

I'll buy a Steiner with a "hologram only" any day over PSA or JSA....you don't even need the stupid card. As long as the sticker hasn't been tampered with "it's Gold Jerry, Gold"!!!!

What I don't like is how their Derek Jeter Items have the ink fading right off of them after a year or two with or with-out being displayed.....especially the new MLB baseballs..it's fen embarrassing for them and  way over priced  for the collector.

I have seen a number of complaints about the super fine tip, light blue ballpoints Steiner uses. And it does not seem to be an issue of poor storage or fading due to excessive light, Even at their best, they are not bold and they seem to have a tendency to significantly lighten in a short period of time. When you see a low-priced Steiner item on eBay, often it is discounted due to a signature that has significantly deteriorated.

Yes, I have seen tons of these.

In a way, it's good for the collector to get a cheaper price; in the long run, the value is compromised.

The balls with the nicer bold signatures cost around $350-450 on eBay.  Which, I guess, is the "going rate" for a Jeter nowadays.
