Hi Everyone-

I recently picked up a band-signed LP insert for the Talking Heads album "Remain In Light" (below). I actually would have preferred a fully signed LP COVER instead but these are exceedingly rare. I've only ever seen one fully signed cover. All other examples I've come across have been signed on the REVERSE side, which features a fighter plane pop art motif, rather than the band member's images (my preference). As this album is one of the seminal recordings of my youth I was happy to get the signed insert, which is a close variation of the original album cover art anyway. Plus, I feel reassured that it came with a Roger Epperson LOA. This will have to do until I can acquire a full band-signed LP cover.

However, I previously passed on this band-signed copy of "Stop Making Sense" (below), as the signatures were not convincing to me, especially the "B" in David Byrne and the "F" and "Z"  (not to mention the slant) in Chris Frantz. After conducting a search I could not find examples that resembled these. The Tina Weymouth signature is, to me anyway, inconclusive, as it is less of a signature script and more closely resembles a hieroglyph and, as such, is far easier to replicate. Overall, all these signatures appear to share common characteristics that suggest to me that they may have been signed by the same hand.

So, instead, I opted for a singularly signed (David Byrne) copy of the same LP (below). I like the color and bold nature of the signature, which contains more documented characteristics of David Byrne's signature than the previous example above. As this particular acquisition was just meant to tide me over until I could acquire my goal of a signed "Remain In Light" LP, the lower cost of the singularly signed "Stop Making Sense" LP made it a considerably smaller purchase risk than the former dubiously group-signed example. I would love to hear from others as to your opinions, particularly regarding these last two items. Thanks. -Syren

You should look into earlier graphs.

Thanks for the reply Eric. I would love an earlier example (the earlier the better) but I have a short list of "must-haves" when it comes to music artists and since most great finds are pricey I find I'm lucky when I can afford ONE each, so Remain In Light is my top pick for Talking Heads. By the way, I love your Bowie that you shared in your previous email- good image and signature, but out of my league price-wise (at least for now).  My first choice would be Aladdin Sane, that's the dream anyway. I'm sure it will cost me a small fortune if I even ever get the opportunity. Be well. -Syren P.S.- Did you have an opinion on the authenticity of the two "Stop Making Sense" examples, vintage not withstanding?
