Hello all.

I have a signed 1971 paperback edition of This Is It signed by the philosopher Alan Watts.

I've compared this signature and the handwriting to various examples posted online and it looks okay to me.

However, i'm no expert, and would greatly appreciate any opinions from collectors and enthuisiasts on here.

Many thanks in advance,

Scott.

So, on my quest to find examples of Alan Watts signatures, i stumbled across this little gem.

It looks very similar to mine, but would love to know what the trained eye contingent think.

(Mine is undedicated)

Thanks in advance!

Is anyone familiar with Alan Watts?

All comments and feedback much appreciated.

Many thanks in advance.

...just in case anyone missed it the first time around...

Anyone familiar with Alan Watts?

All comments appreciated.

Here is some script from Watts out of my collection. This is from late fifties.  Be aware, the signature you have was penned near his death and so may show his age. Nonetheless, it looks authentic.

Michael, thank you so much for taking the time to look, showing an example from your own personal collection and offering an opinion. A positive opinion at that!

I too believe it to be genuine, but to extinguish any remaining doubt i really needed somebody who is familiar with Alan's writing to also offer their thoughts about it. Like you've already outlined, this was penned in his later years when his alcohol consumption was at it's peak. Despite this, i still see consistency and his natural flow when comparing to various authentic online examples.

Many thanks again, Michael. My Sunday has started with a boost!

Cheers!

Interesting to note that perhaps because of Alan's English boarding school training  and his interest in art and calligraphy, his handwriting was impeccable.

Indeed. Gorgeous handwriting. Apparently he was a dab hand at writing Japanese calligraphy using their traditional brushes and ink too.

Thought i'd throw this one out there again. If anyone's familiar with Alan Watts, any opinion would be most welcome.
Thanks in advance.

Any thoughts on this one?

Judge, I know the same thing about Alan Watts' signature as I do about Alan Funt's. Nothing. Nada. Zip. Schneider. Bupkis. I just stopped in for the same reason why the neighborhood kids would always carry Henry Hill's mother's groceries home from the store for her in "Goodfellas". Out of respect! It's been too long, your honor!
