I can't think of anything else it would mean but I don't quite understand why it would be being used in this context - unless, that is, the sheets with the drawings were prints (as opposed to being executed by hand).
I trust that is not the case and they are live ink....?
My thoughts, as well.
The only other thing I can think of is that adding some APs allowed them to produce a small quantity beyond the stated 500 limited edition.
Still, using the AP approach is odd given that they are not prints and are not numbered in the normal edition.
Yes...it is very plausible that unwanted copies of the book which had been reserved for the author would be sold alongside the "trade" editions but that does not explain the use of the term A/P which - I believe - is a term exclusive to print-making.
Given the recent autopen controversies perhaps I am smelling a rat here where there isn't one. If you think about it for a moment though...it's not as if Matt Groening needs the money. Now, he may well be a really cool guy who enjoys giving back to his fans and perhaps he even donates the income he receives from such a project - likely to be no more than 25% of sales at best - to charity. I really don't know.
Instead of having to do 500 seperate drawings, however, it would be a lot easier to do - say - ten - and have 50 copies of each printed.
Just being the Devil's advocate, here, I'm sure they're fine and this is just a terminology error.
