Any opinions of this from the Stooges experts out there? Suppossed to be circa late 1930's to very early 1940's. Any info appreciated.
They look weird. It looks like they were originally signed in pencil and somebody has gone over them with ink. I’d certainly pass on those.
+1
And why did they dot one of the 'e's in Sincerely? There's an 'i' in Larry Fine's name. One would expect that Larry would be more aware than most of which words have 'i's and which don't.
Every letter is uneven as far as thick and thin. Looks like paint by numbers autographs, the epitome of kitchen table forgeries.
Good point about the circle over the Sincerely, but I've seen that before.
Something to consider. In the 1980s, the typical available resource for exemplars were found in published books on the subject. There were only a few available at first, reliable anyway, and then more followed. In these books, as there are in most, were errors. Mistakes. The occasional fake auto represented in the books as being genuine. This happened by mistake, an error on the part of the author, or design; an intentional error.. a spike, included to detect copyright infringement, or maybe to see who may use that erroneous inclusion as a basis for their forgery!
Point I'm making is that the circle over the 'e' in "Sincerely" may be the byproduct of copying a fake exemplar and not necessarily ever penned by Larry Fine in one of his authentic autographs.
