Thoughts on this Roy Campanella

This appears to be on a 1956 vintage baseball.  Please give me your thoughts.  Supposedly this was obtained by the sellers father in the mid 50’s.

The batboy (Charlie DiGiovanna) did a Campanella close to the real thing, but from the "R" in Roy and the location on the ball, I'd guess clubhouse.  As usual, among the people that try to help on baseball, I trust most others opinions above my own .

I like the vibe of the Campy on the ball. IMO, I lean towards authentic and not necessarily a clubhouse proxy.

Thanks Terrier.  That article was very interesting.  There is no Jackie Robinson on this ball which is odd after reading the article.

After reading the article Terrier posted it makes me wonder about the others.  The Drysdale looks right to me but I am very inexperienced.  The Koufax worried me due to the tail on the K but I found one that looks similar and has PSA certification.  The Pee Wee Reese is hard for me to tell.  I have a 1946 ball where he used quotes and precedes good ole Charlie.  I believe Duke Snider is above the Reese but it is faded too much for me to make it out.

This is my authentic Roy Campanella on a '54 Dodgers ball. 

It seems like there is a large qty of '56 Dodgers balls that are clubhouse. Guessing there was a large demand for them after winning the '55 WS. I didnt investigate the other signatures to know for sure, but not sure if it is a '56 but a '57 ball if Jackie Robinson wasn't on it (also last season in NY). Would have been Campanella's last season and '56 was Jackie's last. If I had to guess it looks like a Charlie clubhouse to me.

In my opinion it’s a good Roy Campanella signature. Even if it was a clubhouse ball it wasn’t done with bad intentions. Not many baseballs were kept because, just a few are around. I have a 55 Brooklyn Dodgers Team Signed Ball with Robinson, Pee Wee, Gil, Roy and others. “Authentication by all three JSA PSA and BAS, in one certificate Robinson and Roy are good, in another Robinson is Clubhouse and Gil as well, in the other Pee Wee and Joe Black are clubhouse but Robinson, Roy and Hodges are good. So I call this ball my credit bureau baseball. Not all 3 can get on the same page to get your same credit score. $550 worth in Authentication process.

I think there are more Dodger baseballs from the 1950s than you might think ... and most of the ones I have seen fit the pattern described in the article that Terrier posted.

While a clubhouse signature is not a malicious forgery, it has no real value and can decrease the value of an item it is signed on ... I have a '64 Topps Mantle with a clubhouse signature and it would be worth much more without.
