It would need to have signed provenance from Nirvana equipment manager
from that tour to start with confirming that this was Kurt's guitar.

Read this from an article on this guitar.
"Though several of these guitars were smashed beyond repair (siiiiiick), the one above was reconstructed after it was smashed and given to Enault. The body of the guitar was given a new neck and turning keys, and apparently still sounds fine, which is hard to believe after looking at the below picture, of the guitar’s former state."
This guitar has been refurbished. Personally I would have prefer it in its original smashed conditions. It is not original since it has been refurbished. Price is too steep for a refurbished Cobain guitar !!!!!

I specialize in 90s/ Grunge era high end memorabilia, such as artist owned/ used instruments, handwritten material and original artwork. I also have interest in classic rock era posters and memorabilia from Hendrix, cream, who, doors etc.
As far as the price of this guitar, I'm extremely confident it's priced very fairly and is a great deal vs other examples that are somewhat comparable.
I'm sure we can agree that not all smashed Cobain guitars are created equal and obviously not all artist owned/ used guitars are created equal. "Depth", history, provenance, how much an artist cared for it, what era/ moment it was used, live or for recordings, visually appealing or not, value of underlying guitar -- are all elements.
This guitar was one of the group that he would routinely smash but it's one of only 5 (still super rare), smashing guitars was in the fabric of Nirvanas being/ performances and to what you guys mentioned, this is an entire guitar vs the others just being the body/ unplayable etc.
As far as it being "refurbished", it was rebuilt at that time. It was rebuilt for Kurt to replay and was salvaged, not rebuilt by the owner. That's its supportive to the value of this piece vs being in pieces and all original. All the parts are from that era and rebuilt for Kurt to play again. This is as "original" as another of the smashed remnants. It was also used/ smashed and survived so the use is also a prominent part of the piece.
And for reference 2 other examples of black strats from the In Utero tour, both just bodies and not original necks/ unplayable - went for more than this one. I'd personally take this in a heartbeat over the others as a collector. I actually thought about trying to purchase this , but not sure my wife would be happy given what time/ effort and resources we've been putting and plan to continue to put into Collectionzz!

A GUITAR that Kurt played, smashed, the technician then repairs it for Kurt to play again! If there is proof that he did play it again (video) then this is one heck of a guitar and very much priced fairly I think...wonder what is sounds like plugged in...
Handwritten stuff, instruments, art-great focus-with a name like collectonzz, I bet you do ZZ Top!

I would need a letter from Jim Vincent. Period. With something of this value, he should be contacted and have no problem giving it if authentic.

Well, I agree that Jim should clearly be thought of and was the gate- keeper of these guitars. The issue becomes Jim feeling like he can 100% state what and which the guitar is, with it being one of 5 strats with no documented serial #, and once it's left his hands. I'm close with Greg Dorsett of Rock Stars Guitars who sold Jims last guitar and spoke with him extensively about this one. I was offered Jims last guitar ( and know the buyer of the drilled guitar sold at Gotta have it) and spent a lot of time looking at/ assessing it. He had 2 bodies in his possession that he could 100% attest to and frankly was incentivized to attest to.
Greg and I are on the same page with how we think about this guitar. The story on on Gui getting it after the show is 100% accurate.
I can get in touch with Jim but remember it's not his guitar. Can we get him to talk about the parts he used to rebuild and the story of Kurt giving one away? - sure. But the "#2" on the body, which is a differentiator vs the other strats, supposedly he couldn't 100% recall.
Listen, I'm with you on getting as much documentation as possible and most importantly as much a line to the artist/ moment/ or event as possible. But there are also real items from the source (fans who got at a show, ex employees, friends) and fake items. Id feel super comfortable sitting down with anyone in the hobby about the history/ provenance / authenticity of this guitar. With or without a letter from Jim.
It's not my guitar, but we are proud and confident to have it represented by Collectionzz and frankly at some point I may own it myself !!
I will definitely try to follow up with Jim myself cause if there is one ounce more we can find out, outside my convos with Greg, it can only help
