Hello, I have recently bought several signed Harry potter pictures online. As I am a novice, I have bought three items each with a different reason that I think are pitfalls for beginners such as myself.

The first item was a card that is claimed to be cast signed. The seller (who does not sell autographs and just lists vintage items and various HP fan merch) claims to have bought it from a hp4u auction 10 years ago, the account is indeed 10+ years old with 100% feedback but that isnt very relevant to the question at hand I suppose. No COA was offered. Bought as a gamble and "imagine if it was real" mindset.

The second item was from ebay, with a COA linked to a physical store, it was purchsed by the original owner  at a supernova in 2015. I've contacted the store, which has agreed for a full refund or credits to convention signings if I believe it to be non-genuine. Bought due to the confidence of a COA from a physical store with good reviews.

The third item was again from an eBay seller who mainly sells/sold 2000s signed items, mainly LOTR as well as startrek, xmen, autographs and autograph cards, topps/artbox. He has pictures with the actors as proof with several signed pieces but this one he claims was "preordered from a registered dealer at the Showmasters event", it comes with a COA from "Uniquities" from Collectormania G-Mex Feb 2006, which, after some digging online, showed that the three actors did attend the event.  Bought due to confidence in seller and details of where and when the item was signed.

Any help would be greatly appreciated,

Thanks!

By the way, I am happy to upload additional photographs if the ones I have uploaded are unclear. Thanks!

I do not know about the second one, but I do not believe either Dan/Rupert/Emma is authentic.

Thanks, is there recommendations you could give me to where to purchase HP autographs and what to look for?

Much appreciated.

As far as I know, there really isn't any one stop shops for authentic Harry Potter autographs.   I would start by focusing/studying on one signature, like Rowling or Emma Watson, since they are the 2 most heavily faked.   I had to get a green light from a knowledgeable member here before buying my first Emma Watson signature.  Seriously, 99 out of every 100 Watson signatures you see listed on Ebay is a forgery or preprint.

Having the ability to spot the real thing yourself is worth the effort.  It will come in time.

I would have a look at the RACC (Real Autograph Collectors Club). Both the web site and on the Facebook page. I Purchased this item for my daughter from one of their Trusted Sellers last year. Did a lot of my own research on the signers and asked for opinions from fellow collectors before I purchased. You'll find items with PSA or Beckett authentication are MUCH more expensive. I personally don't care about third party authentication. I did my due diligence on both the autographs and the seller. These are "street graphs", which means they are quick in person and will rarely be as perfect as items signed at conventions or private signings. But they can be acquired for much lower price.

Nothing can replace your own research and secondary opinions from experienced collectors. Study the signatures of the signers your looking for and ask questions here and other forums. I trust that more than PSA or Beckett, and their COAs double or triple the cost of items. I have found that due diligence and, above all else, patience results in real autographs and reasonable prices.
