Vintage Photographs

My mother collected Hollywood autographed photos as a young woman in the 40's and 50's.

They traveled from Hollywood to Denmark!!

We would like to determine their value and how to sell them. I hope the proceeds will allow my mother to visit us more often, she lives in Az. and we are in Phila.

I am attaching a few and looking forward to hearing your thoughts.

There are way too many variables to easily determine a value. Vintage celebrity photos can be valuable. Size, condition, the celebrity, the photographer, the markings on the back, and if there is an authentic or pre-printed autograph all have an impact on the item's value. Since you live in the Philadelphia area I would imagine there may be a autograph or memorabilia dealer in the area who could probably help you understand what you have. Vintage photos of the era you are talking about can run from around $10 each to around $100.

Inge, I believe you are talking about autographed photos, however - not unsigned ones, right? Well, depending on the star, they can be worth much, much more than $100. Recently, on eBay, an inscribed and signed vintage photo of Cary Grant sold for $710, and it was not authenticared. There were 16 bids for it. To get the best prices, you normally would want to get the item authenticated by a PSA/DNA or JSA. But that can be expensive depending on how many you have. You don't have to get them authenticated. You could just post them on eBay and let the market determine the value. But that can be risky. I did that once on an authentic Gary Cooper that was not authenticated, and I got $70, when I probably should have gotten $400 or $500.

Instead, you could put a Buy It Now price on the autos, but that can take longer to sell. Anyway, those are some thoughts for now. Good luck.
