I don't think he signed it, but the most important expert in Disney autographs is Phil Sears: https://www.phil-sears.com/
You can email him at the link at the bottom of the page. He'll probably charge you but you can rely on his determination.
Thank you very much for your advice.
I will try to contact Phil and see what his epinion is.
Is that crayon or a Crayola pencil? If so, it looks like it was resting on an abrasive and porous platform when it was signed. Going to make authentication daunting, IMO, even for a Disney signature expert! Never seen one like this, Walt's signatures are usually executed under seemingly ideal conditions, with an implement more conducive to preserving the fine details.
My first impression is authentic, but due to the above mentioned issues, I can't get to more than 55/45 in favor or it being genuine. However, it does have the right elements and vibe, IMO.
You are right. You can see more photos of the signature here:
Hi again Steve and Woody2Shoes
Just a follow up on my post.
I actually asked Phil Sears for his opinion on this Disney autograph.
He did not like it - therefore I am not buying it.
Once again - thanks for your help.
Hi John,
I'm glad you went to Phil. Even more, I'm impressed that you did your research before you bid...or bought. So many people don't.
Real Walt Disney autographs are worth $1,500+. Starting bids on eBay can be 99-cents and an autograph may sell for $20,000, but you probably could have owned the one you posted at the opening bid.
Here are a few examples of typical, genuine Disney autographs. Notice the artistic flair and style of these autographs compared to the one you asked about. With a bit of study, you'll be able to tell forgeries like the one you posted instantly.
These sold in the $1,600-$1,900 range at RR Auction in 2018:
I'm glad I contacted Phil. His response was very professional. It's the best money I've spent and is part of buying autographs.
I do not buy many autographs, but those I buy I hang up on the wall and look at them every day. Therefore, they just have to be genuine :-)
Very nice examples of his autograph you are posting, and you are right. I can now see the difference between what I posted to your great examples.
What did he charge you, if you don't mind saying?
BTW, the ones I posted aren't special examples. You'll have a hard time finding a blah Walt Disney autograph.
Keep up the good search. And please ask us before you ask Phil if you can, so we can hone our skills.
Thanks...and Happy New Year.
I bought his $35 option and he replied quickly.
I will ask you the next time I find something interesting.
I wish you a happy new year here from Europe too :-)
EDIT:
Actually, I asked for another opinion on a James Brown autograph here:
https://live.autographmagazine.com/forum/topics/james-brown-1
Maybe you can help me with that too?
I believe Phil sells as well. You can always ask him what he has.
Ok - thanks for your advice.
"I bought his $35 option and he replied quickly."
Money wisely spent and a tremendous value for only $35 as well!
I don't doubt that one, if not all, of the major services might have green-lit this Disney, based on the authentications I've seen, unless they had an exemplar in their files that was a precise match (a huge red flag). But if Phil says otherwise. It's otherwise! lol
