Authenticity is Everything
When is it appropriate to sell?
With the passing of Burt Reynolds today it brought up a thought. When is it appropriate to sell after someone passes? On a FB group I am in that I thought was actual collectors. I now believe it is mostly resellers, the ones that push the true collectors out of the way to get there 10 items signed, on the page. Anyway within the hour of the announcement they had Burt for sale. It was the same with Aretha. They made it a point to say it had been voted on that it was ok and if you don't agree, they will kick you out. Of course dealers would say that but what about collectors. I myself find it disrespectful and wouldn't buy or sell the day they passed just to make a buck. I respect all opinions either side, just looking for thoughts.

I would find it difficult, but I suppose, business is business and I can understand the rush to make a few quick dollars.

I've learned that this hobby can be cold. Both in people scamming others and in cashing in on those who pass. I have to agree with Michael its part of the business. Try not to take it to heart. It happens to everyone and will keep happening as long as there's money to be made. It used to bother me but not anymore. It is what it is.

The record and film companies are the worst. Everyone is chasing the dollar. It's part of life.
I'm sure Burt wouldn't mind if his autograph increased in value. I'm also sure the film company has already got the BR box set repackaged.

So it looks like since I agreed with someone's comment on RACC about thinking it was not cool, they as they put it Burt Reynolds booted me!

Really. If accurate, and I've no reason to think anything other, this is...well - the point at hand is this is not the time to buy a Reynolds, and any "collector"* worth his...ink should know this.
*I no longer claim to know what a collector is. I do not know if I am. If it is a general term employed to describe most - then I am not. I must be some sort of...weirdo! Double weight and matte finish © and dedications preferred ...good god!

What I find fascinating when someone croaks is the hoards of autographs and memorabilia that come out of the woodworks collectors seem to sit on items thinking that someone graph is rare and then KAPOW you see thousands of the persons graph. Who cares about dealers!

Most of the stuff that came out after the death of David Bowie was either overpriced and/or common/problematic. Or, of course, much was simply not real.
