Why Auctions increasingly have a persons "john doe" collection for sale

These days I always see auctions selling things from someone's special collection.  For instance, this months RR auction has items from the

Dan Schaiewitz Space Collection

The Bill Lende Collection (134)

What does this mean?

the reason is some people were tops in there field of collecting or might of worked in the industry so it brings more credibility

i will give one brad rogers .u might say who  but he was the largest who collector and hes been selliung his stuff off so when an itiem  listed  from the brad rogers collections its brings a premium. and more athentencity

But what quantity constitutes a collection? And do these vaunted collectors get a better consignment deal at auction houses?

yes to a better deal usualy.better  commision rate .

i get really good deals at most auction houses and except one i get my calls and emails answers all the time

a collection is a large quainty of itiems in one field or multiple feilds from someone over a long time .

alot of times they might have worked in there field.

I completely agree with John Shaw here...

I know a few "John Doe" collector's who if they ever sold off their collection would make the average collector's head explode. haha

John is also correct than many of these collectors are people who have special connections with celebs...ie, family, friends, roadies, photographers, managers, PR dept ... holy crap the list goes on and on and on and on... and yes their credibility factor is usually unquestioned.

regarding credibility, are you saying that if it comes from such a collector, then that is all the authenticity neededto sell?

I will only say this...

Many people, including myself buy items soley based on that person's reputation.

But I am talking about people with a rock solid reputation.

You may do as you see fit.
