Looking for valuation.

Hello,

When I was in High School, my mom and I faxed letters of support to Michael when he was staying at the Raffles Hotel in Singapore. My mom saw that he was staying there on the news after the first allegations came out and we went down to a shop to do an international FAX with the letters marked "Private". We were former Jehovah's Witnesses and I mentioned that in my letter. A week later, I received an autographed promo photo from MJ in the mail from the Heal the World Foundation. My mom did not get one. I know my autograph is authentic and I'm the only one that has ever had possession of it. It was in storage for about 7 years and has been framed since the week I received it. It is in perfect condition. Do you know how much something like this would be worth? In addition, mine has the MJJ productions logo on the bottom left and Epic 9111 on the right along with a disclaimer about reproduction on the bottom. The year of the photo is 1991.

Can you post a photo of yours? I realize you believe yours is real and legit, but MJ also had secretarial sigs that went out on promo pics. (A LOT of promo pics---this one included)

I see legit ones on eBay anywhere from 500 (very low end) on up (some people are asking ridiculous amounts). It also depends on whether or not you have or a COA for it. Are you thinking of selling it or? If you are, you'll probably get more money for it if you get a COA from Roger Epperson of Real. There are other authenticators out there you can use, but in all honesty, none can compare on authenticating MJ like Roger.

I have a scan of it. I'm not thinking of selling it, but would like to to know some sort of worth for insurance purposes. I'm living in the UK now and the thought of parting with it to be sent to Texas doesn't sit well with me. http://www.flickr.com/photos/8289595@N05/12415542734/

Hard to See the autograph.
The few strokes I can see I don't like a lot.

Not my fault that it is hard to see. Easy to see when the photo is tipped, but it isn't going to scan well due to black on black. What do you mean by you "don't like a lot". To someone new at this, that sounds strange.

From the little bit visible I can see from the autograph I see nothing that makes me think it´s an authentic MJ signature.

How can you be sure it´s genuine when you have received it through mail? Could very well be a secreterial signature.

If you really want to be sure you should use Roger Epperson´s Quick Opinion Service. You don´t have to ship the photo to the US for this. You can send him a scan of the item.

Thank you AB. I'll do that. As for being sure it is genuine, I received it from Michael's own organization, not an E-Bay auction. I don't think there is any reason for me to think a postman switched anything out.

As I mentioned earlier Autumn, Michael had people signing for him. If you didn't see it signed with your own eyes in Michael's hand, it is possible that it is a secretarial. I cannot tell myself, as I can't see the autograph at all.

Unfortunately as others have mentioned, the autograph cannot be seen on this scan. Sometimes taking a picture of it works better. You may have to play with it a few times to get the right angle and lighting to offset the ink with the printed photo.

As for the value--if it is real, maybe we can get Steve to chime in on how one values an autograph for insuring purposes.

I am reserving my opinion on the autograph until it can be seen better :)

I hate to say it, but I do think that your Michael Jackson photo was probably signed by someone in his organization other than Michael. I'm saying that not only because the autograph doesn't look like his, but because that photo is commonly seen with a secretarially signed autoraph.

Regarding an appraisal for insurance purposes, check your policy to find out what is required. There often is a minimum value at which an appraisal is required for collectibles. Below that value, just keep images in a safe place online, or photos or a disk in your safe deposit box.

If genuine, your signed photo would be worth roughly $1,000, give or take 30%.

Sorry Sandra. I have to question your eyesight if you think those two look the same. They clearly do not. It does, however, look like the one Aleksi pointed out.
