The past few days mail have brought me several nice autographs. In the past week, I have received autographed University of Georgia Collegiate Collections cards of former UGA football greats Pat Dye and Dennis Hughes, as well as an autographed Georgia Tech Collegiate Collections card of former Tech football great John Dewberry. Pat Dye was an All-American offensive/defensive lineman for UGA in 1959 and 1960, as well as a fantastic college head coach for Wyoming, East Carolina, and Auburn. Dennis Hughes was an excellent tight end for the Bulldogs from 1967-1969, and was an All-SEC selection. John Dewberry was an Academic All-American for Georgia Tech in 1985, and really helped turn that program around in the 1980's. He also sent along a very nice note thanking me for the letter and recalling all his great games at quarterback. What a class act!

This past weekend, I attended a nice little card show in Roswell, GA, and picked up a 2006 Upper Deck Sweet Spot Images autographed oversized card of Pro Football Hall of Fame quarterback, Bob Griese. Bob was the quarterback for the Miami Dolphins, and guided them to 2 Super Bowl championships, and teamed with Earl Morrall in 1972 to lead the Dolphins to that magical 17-0 season.
Then, to cap off the last one of a great Falcons Tailgate Team Kraft products promotions presented by Publix for the year, I went to a local area Publix here in Woodstock, GA, and racked up on some Falcons autographed 8x10s! I bought 15 Banquet pot-pies (I hope I don't get sick of eating them anytime soon!) and got autographed 8x10s of Falcons offensive tackle Tyson Clabo, running back Jason Snelling, and defensive end Lawrence Sidbury. Tyson is a great tackle, and does a good job of pass protecting and run blocking. He's been our starting right tackle for the past 5 years, and has been a good one. Jason continues to impress at running back. Coming in for Michael Turner in between snaps, he has rushed for 280 yards and a touchdown, and has added 25 catches for 125 yards for another touchdown so far this season. Lawrence is an up and coming defensive end for us that should only get better with time. During his rookie year last year with us, he had 5 tackles, a bone crushing sack of Donavan McNabb, and a fumble return for a touchdown. He's been doing a good job at right defensive end teaming with John Abraham, and I can't wait to see how he'll finish out this season for us.

Just thought that I would share this.

Andy Irons, a three-time world surfing champion and one of the more popular athletes on the Assn. of Surfing Professionals' elite World Tour, has died after coming down with an undisclosed illness during a competition in Puerto Rico.

Irons was only 32 and leaves behind a pregnant wife, Lyndie, and younger brother, Bruce, who is a former World Tour competitor.

Irons was not only a great surfer, but he was also a very good ttm signer.
Such a shame to lose some one at such a young age. R.I.P. Andy.

This weekend's mail brought me the autograph of former Florida State University and pro football quarterback, Casey Weldon. Casey was one of the greatest FSU quarterbacks ever, finishing 2nd in the Heisman Trophy voting his senior year. He had a nice little NFL career for many teams, and was the quarterback for the Birmingham Thunderbolts in the infamous XFL. He signed for me his 2001 Topps XFL card.

Sunday, I went to the local sports card monthly show where Football HOF wide receiver Charley Taylor was signing and also former Pro Bowl star and former teammate of Charley's, Chris Hanberger was signing. Chris, is one of two nominees, from the seniors committee for this years Pro Football HOF class. Living by the Pro football HOF opens up many autograph opportunities throughout the year .

Today's mail brought an autograph of NHL Hall of Famer, John Bucyk. John was one of the greatest Boston Bruins players ever, and signed a custom card I made of him. He was the team captain on those great Bruins teams in 1970 and 1972, when they won the Stanley Cup, and is the Bruins all-time goals leader.

I got Buffalo Bill's wide receiver Lee Evans yesterday at the Sports Illustrated's 'College Football Experience" prior to the Wisconsin-Ohio State game at Camp Randall Stadium. Lee was a super great guy and a great guest for the Q & A session. How about them Badgers getting the job done last night!

Today's mail brought me an autograph of former Miami Dolphins safety, Dick Anderson. He signed for me his 2004 Topps Fan Favorites card. Dick was a great safety, and was a huge part of that great Maimi Dolphins defense that helped guide that team to the famous "17-0" record. I hope one day he gets the Hall of Fame recognition that he so richly deserves.

Saw where my good friend and autograph dealer, Bob Presley of BP Sports in Marietta, GA, was having a sale on 8x10 pictures of former Braves players he's had in his store for public signings. I picked up 2 today that I got at his shows on my team ball projects, but not an individual item; Yunel Escobar and Gregor Blanco. Both guys were so nice to us fans on the days they signed back in 2008. Yunel was our everyday shortstop until midseason this year, when we traded him to the Blue Jays for Alex Gonzalez. I hope the change of scenery will be good for him. Yunel went on to hit .275 for the Blue Jays over the second half of the season this year. Gregor is a great outfielder and was our everyday outfielder in 2008, and had 2 to 3 dozen appearances for the Braves the past 2 seasons, but was traded to the Royals for Rick Ankiel. He'll do a good job for the Royals, as he wound up hitting .274 for them over the second half of the season. At $5 a pop, I couldn't resist picking up an autograph from these 2 potential stars!
