Soldier in Afghanistan Needs Sports Authenticity Opinions

Soldier in Afghanistan Needs Sports Authenticity Opinions

A soldier in Afghanistan bought these sports autographs and would like to know what you think of them! Almost all have been authenticated, and I've either cropped the photos to remove the authentication stickers, or covered them.

Please only comment on authenticity when you feel confident in your opinion.

Thanks for helping one of our heroes in harm's way!

@Rick:

Some of these have the same autograph in different spots, or on different photos. And some of the auctions say more than one is available. Do you know if yours were actually signed, if the autograph was preprinted on the item, or if any of them look essentially identical but were not preprinted?

At this moment I'm not going to identify the source or the authenticators.

They look identical. They are actually signed and many of the photos are actually digital reproductions that look printed from a color printer. But the signatures on them is an actual sharpie. I have I think 20 of them. The 500 he club was copied from an actual print and some of it was cut off ill try and load them and I can email copies of them.

Well, if they are on digital prints, there is a good chance there is no way Mantle could have signed them. What is the photostock?

I'll have to check when I get home. Not exactly sure. I will post follow up.

Don't know until we see it, if he sends them in. You're right, obviously. I believe they did introduce digital prints right before Mantle died, but the quality is nothing like it is today and they faded fairly quickly I heard.

@Rick:

Do you know how to tell today's digital prints for sure? They can look a lot like continuous tone lab prints these days.

The name on the back of the photo would likely tell the story. Any digital photostock that was available in 1995 or before has likely been long discontinued.  I suppose it's possible to find massive quantities of whatever digital photostock name Kodak or Fuji was using at the time, but unlikely.

No not sure of I can. I just know they are not photographs. I can send some to you if you'd like. I won't display them. I just had to suck up knowing aafes helped rip off a Soldier. Aafes must think we are rich. I'll be home in about 2 hours and ill look at them closer

There are no markings on the back of these pictures. It is heavy cardboard like computer paper but these are not photo paper.

Not surprising I guess. That would have been too easy. lol

I hope there is a special place in hell for lowlifes that scam our servicemen and women. It's bad enough to be a scammer, but to scam military members really takes it to a new low. Probably the same type of scum that pull driveway sealer scams on old folks.
