Thanks Nick, can't wait to see your piece when it's finished.  This matting / frame job started out as my LSU colored purple & gold setup for my PSA/DNA Graded 10 GM & encapsulated signed check by Pete Maravich, then I sold it so we did the best we could with what we had left over.  I sure miss that Maravich though :(

I can’t stand those sterile cumbersome PSA holders that checks particularly are encapsulated in. I think you did a very good job on the framing. Are you able to see the Garbo endorsement on the back, however?

I agree, the back of the Maravich piece got pretty bulky holding onto the slabbed Maravich check.  On the Garbo, my framer put a purple background just laying under her signed check, so you can't see the endorsed part of the back of the check since he laid the purple background drop behind the check, as he thought the colors would be consistent throughout the matting / frame job this way.

At least you have a photo of the endorsement. I’ve researched Garbo extensively and have never seen any piece twice signed by her, it’s phenomenal! Garbo actually hated writing checks because they never would be cashed and kept for a collectible which completely messed up her impeccable accounting standards.

Yes, for sure.  I always take pics or keep the nicer scans of things I win in my auctions.  It's also very cool that both autographs grade about a 10/10, very bold with what she wrote it out and signed it with.  Funny, I also read as much as I could about her, and she just hated signing autographs for fans, and people keeping her checks because they knew that's the only way they would get one ;-)   I wish there would have been a way that he could have showed both sides when putting it together, but at least we all knew if it was made out to cash, she had no choice but to sign the back also.  I miss Steve's worst signers articles from the magazine, she would have definitely made the lifetime list of worst signers....Ha ha.

I think Michaels did a pretty good job with it but I probably would have liked the check matted and not floating but I was talked out of it by the framer. Also, the check obviously has a cancellation stamp on the signature but for the price I got this for I literally stole it.

Wow, that's very nice Nick, they definitely did a great job on it.  Nice layout too.

Thanks so much! I am working on an Errol Flynn now with Michaels. They get knocked a lot for being a big box store but they do a really good job and run great sales on nice frames.
