Kimila Ann "Kim" Basinger (Athens, December 8, 1953) is an American actress and former model. She is a sex symbol actress of the eighties, she made her debut in 1978 with the TV film The Phantom of Flight 401, following participation in films in secondary roles. In 1983 she starred alongside Robert Redford and Glenn Close in The Best of Barry Levinson, a film that brought her a Golden Globe nomination for "best supporting actress" and in Robert Altman's Madness. Her success came with the roles of Elizabeth McGraw in Adrian Lyne's cult film 9 ½ Weeks and Vicki Vale in Tim Burton's Batman. She achieved the pinnacle of success thanks to the role of Lynn Bracken in L.A. Confidential, a film thanks to which she won the statuette for best supporting actress at the 1998 Oscar Awards, a Golden Globe and a Screen Actors Guild in the same category, being nominated for a BAFTA as best leading actress.
