Autograph collectors often work on projects that require a tremendous amount of patience. Adding multiple autographs to a single item has the potential to be both frustrating and rewarding, particularly if members of the group are difficult to acquire autographs from.
My favorite World Series teams have always been the 1977-1978 New York Yankees. Unfortunately, acquiring all of the players’ autographs on a single item is impossible to accomplish in person today. Catfish Hunter, Billy Martin and Thurman Munson all passed away many years ago.
Rather than attempt to achieve the impossible, I set out to achieve the next best thing to a single item autographed by every player on those two teams. I collected individual players’ autographs on separate items. Those items mostly included baseballs, photos and sports cards. I still have not added the autograph of Thurman Munson to my collection. I hope to add a Thurman Munson autograph to my collection in the future.
My Paul Blair autographed baseball, with 77, 78 W.S.C. inscription.
Have you ever worked on completing a similar autograph project? If so, what was it, and how successful were you in completing it?
Mike, nice Paul Blair. I remember Paul Blair consoling Billy Martin after Thurman was killed in that plane crash.
Those 1977-78 teams were exciting. Good luck with your project.
Thanks, Christopher.
