I was offered this today. Charles Feeney National League ball (1970-1986). Random Dodger stars and HOF players. The ones I am familiar with are good. Lasorda, Snoder, Wills, Tommy Davis.. to name a…Continue

On a Facebook sports card page I follow somebody posted a bunch of autographs for sale at small shop in ILL. He's getting all kinds of terrible advice. I'd like some more confirmation from some of…Continue

TradeGeek replied to Ryan Schear's discussion Gary Carter/Daryl Strawberry 1987 Topps Team Leaders
"I don't like the Carter. The G looks a bit odd and I have never seen a separation between the C and A in Carter. Could just be rushed. The Strawberry looks in the range. Also might be rushed.  "

TradeGeek replied to William walker's discussion Psa/dna authenticity on a autographed game used Jersey
"I'm not sure how the NFL handles game used. For MLB they have a holographic sticker with a serial number. That serial number is in a database which gives you the date and description of when and how the item was used. The only other way to…"

TradeGeek replied to CLiebl's discussion Encapsulation: PSA vs Beckett
"All I know is that you can't stack the Beckett domes. I much prefer cubes. Then again, I buy them by the case for a couple bucks each. Don't use 3rd party authentication. "

TradeGeek replied to William walker's discussion Psa/dna authenticity on a autographed game used Jersey
"Keep in mind PSA is only authenticating the autograph. Not the fact that the item is game used. Game used authentication would have to come from the NFL. I'm not sure how they do that as I don't really collect football. But be aware that…"

"What is strange is some of the autographs were legit. The Snider was good. So was the Lasorda. I'm very familiar with those. It seems somebody took a relatively inexpensive ball with some autographs and decided wo juice it up with some…"

About Me

What kind of member are you? Industry professionals must use their real names and identify themselves as such. (Check as many as apply.)
Collector
What brings you to Autograph Live?
I was a collector as a child and owned a retail store in high school specializing in sports memorabilia (mostly sports cards, ya it was the early 90s). Was inactive after college. Recently, my 8 year old son has become a huge baseball fan. I have started collecting again with my son after a 20 year hiatus. The shocking volume of forgeries on the market brought me here.
Who can we thank for telling you about Autograph Live?
word of mouth
What do you collect, or want to collect?
Sports
Tell us more about your collection, specific areas of interest, etc.:
Primarily baseball. Mostly in person autographs. I have a large sports card collection and do collect certified autographed cards. Most of my collection was either signed in person for me or for someone I know. I generally shy away from purchasing autographs given the number of forgeries on the market.
What is your level of expertise?
Intermediate Collector
What is your favorite autograph in your collection?
A Walter Payton photo my first employee gave me for my birthday in 1994. It is personalized and came from my friend's ex-wife in Chicago who worked in the same building as WP at the time.
For my son? Mike Trout signed a ball for him last summer. It was a BLEM he was playing catch with earlier that day. It has ketchup on it. But he landed Trout!
Why do you collect?
To expose my son to the same joy of baseball I had as a child.
You can ask anyone living or dead for their autograph. Who would it be?
Walter Payton. Just to meet him
