T206 baseball card forgeries. Rocking the vintage card hobby the last week.

I'm not sure if this has been discussed elsewhere on AML. Some of the vintage collectors at Net54 discovered a forger who has been getting bogus signed 1909-1911 t206 cards passed by the major…Continue

Anybody know of any upcoming Harrison Ford signings?

I picked this up this week as a Christmas present for my son. It’s his favorite movie. I would love to add Ford to it. I know it’s a long shot. But if anybody knows of any scheduled signings coming…Continue

Ted Williams Green Diamond COA

Steiner sold a pile of Williams autographs over the weekend for $99. All have Green Diamond COAs. I'm seeing them all over social media with some debate about the reliability of the COA (which…Continue

"The vast majority of autographed cards issued by the large card manufactures are authentic. I'd say in the 99.99% range. Companies like Upper Deck, Panini and Topps contract with athletes and celebrities to sign their products. And yes, many…"

"I have no experience with JSA, however I've been to any number of signings with PSA and more recently Beckett. In each instance the people from the authentication company were literally a couple feet away from where the athletes were signings.…"

TradeGeek replied to Freddymac's discussion Can someone help me identify this autograph please? It was a present for my son and I don't know where to begin! Thanks in advance
"Any more information? It's a Rawlings Players choice ball. Those were often used for large volume signings. Does it have any kind of authentication sticker? Do you have a likely geographic region where it originated? "

TradeGeek replied to Michael's discussion Tommy lasorda real or fake please ?
"I think you're good. Tommy's Ls have changed over the years. That is a much prettier "L" than typical. I would have guessed that was earlier than 1989. But the "orda" is good. Nice auto.  No, unfortunately. I…"

TradeGeek replied to TayLar116's discussion Joe Montana Signed Jersey
"It's good.  Two points. 1. Tristar isn't an authenticator. They contract with athletes for public and private signings. So their COA isn't an opinion. The autograph is from one of their signings.  2, Mill Creek Sports is a…"

"I've been blatant forgeries on all types of pre 1912 M, N, G, T, E, and strip cards, as well as 1933 and 1934 Goudey cards for years upon years. IMO, the overwhelming majority are forged."

T206 baseball card forgeries. Rocking the vintage card hobby the last week.

I'm not sure if this has been discussed elsewhere on AML. Some of the vintage collectors at Net54 discovered a forger who has been getting bogus signed 1909-1911 t206 cards passed by the major authenticators. If the forger was as good at covering his tracks as he is at replicating vintage autographs, he might have been able to get away with the scam indefinitely. Nobody knows how long this person has been at this. It's seriously freaking out vintage baseball autograph collectors. Yet another…See More

TradeGeek replied to Danny Francis's discussion Is this Al Pacino real?
"PSA issues two types of COAs. "Opinion" or "Witnessed".  If your COA looks like this one then it's not an opinion. It was likely issued when PSA representatives were paid to be present at an organized signing. PSA or…"

TradeGeek replied to albert L's discussion Michael Jordan autograph.. Real?
"I typically don't trust anything Jordan that isn't from Upper Deck. I still stand by that. However, I don't see any obvious red flags with the signature. Sharpie on fabric is difficult (especially when it's not on the numbers)…"

About Me

What kind of member are you? Industry professionals must use their real names and identify themselves as such. (Check as many as apply.)
Collector
What brings you to Autograph Live?
I was a collector as a child and owned a retail store in high school specializing in sports memorabilia (mostly sports cards, ya it was the early 90s). Was inactive after college. Recently, my 8 year old son has become a huge baseball fan. I have started collecting again with my son after a 20 year hiatus. The shocking volume of forgeries on the market brought me here.
Who can we thank for telling you about Autograph Live?
word of mouth
What do you collect, or want to collect?
Sports
Tell us more about your collection, specific areas of interest, etc.:
Primarily baseball. Mostly in person autographs. I have a large sports card collection and do collect certified autographed cards. Most of my collection was either signed in person for me or for someone I know. I generally shy away from purchasing autographs given the number of forgeries on the market.
What is your level of expertise?
Intermediate Collector
What is your favorite autograph in your collection?
A Walter Payton photo my first employee gave me for my birthday in 1994. It is personalized and came from my friend's ex-wife in Chicago who worked in the same building as WP at the time.
For my son? Mike Trout signed a ball for him last summer. It was a BLEM he was playing catch with earlier that day. It has ketchup on it. But he landed Trout!
Why do you collect?
To expose my son to the same joy of baseball I had as a child.
You can ask anyone living or dead for their autograph. Who would it be?
Walter Payton. Just to meet him
