It looks authentic but not one I'd collect or sell - it has several serious condition problems. Every person in this thread said it was undesirable in way or another. Authentic is not equivalent with desirable. Can you return it? The contrast is not as seen in the first scans you posted is there is your reason. In time all you will see it the condition. Good prices (usually offered, and had, for a reason) are forgotten very quickly.
Wow! I just chatted with the new owner of this Hepburn. He is a young man collecting the signatures of his idols on a budget. I was impressed. He paid rather reasonable too considering (I was afraid of serious overpay) but is thrilled with his new item just as it is. He understands it drawbacks/condition and the effect on value. I thought such a collector was perhaps a myth these days - its like what I posted the other day. You can get as much fun putting wheat pennies out of circulation into a blue Whitman folder as you can buying that 1909 S VDB in MS67 with the Albanese sticker. It is vantage. It's not all $$$, stickers and plastic and papers. Maybe some forget this - I do sometimes I must believe. I took a refreshing step back.
