Black Sharpie, without question. If there's a particular "vintage" look you're going for, I'd understand a ballpoint to an extent - even then, Sharpies are just more reliable. Especially if it's a glossy surface.

That is true. Thank you. I say - if I knew the red ball point would come out OK, I would choose that.

I think red wouldn't match that well, you might be distracted by the red background now. Look at the picture without that red.

I'd go for a blue ballpoint.
Or maybe a blue sharpie, if a ball point isn't appropriate for the surface.

Ballpoint is iffy,its a mostly blue pic so black will show so much more. That's unless you wanna go Red Sharpie!Black Sharpie would be my preference.

There are touches of black in the middle but I think black would be too much of a contrast with the pic overall.
I think (dark) blue would perfectly match the lighter blue water and air, making the signature more part of the picture.
A black sharpie doesn't perfectly fit a vintage seventies postcard.

You can't really go wrong with black. Ball point on a shiny surface, in my opinion, is asking for trouble.

OK. Thank you all. So, blue ball point I believe. But  a quick question. Rounding this off to general pen types, I have seen trouble with felt/Sharpie on extremely glossy surfaces. Hairlines at best. This is why I was thinking ball point - to strike into the surface. But several have suggested Sharpie, so I am asking - have you had good luck with Sharpie on very glossy surfaces?

Others have said ball point would not adhere - what has been your experience with that on glossy surfaces?
