Hi there.

I'm looking for a signed copy of brain salad surgery by ELP, can anyone point me in the right direction? I nearly bought one from MMP but glad I looked on this forum first! So it seems there are more fakes than real out there, any help would be greatly appreciated.

Yes but we must be careful. We can only recruit so many ELP fans or the it will drive the prices up. And we don't want that. It's better the Stones and Beatles folks stay where they are HA HAAA

My joke for the day hehe

Ha ha yes let's keep it to three, (even tho there's an element of truth..)

Rolling Stones

I probably shouldn't say this but...

I saw the Stones back in the festival seating days and nearly walked out half way through. It was so mind numbing boring I could barely stand it. I walked up to the stage for a few songs and then went to the back again. Watching Mick Jagger strut around like a chicken was just pathetically comical. Keith was kinda cool with a few of his moves... when he did move haha. The stage was HUGE and it was like watching paint dry. And to be honest, the music really sounded like crap. I just started drinking more and smoking **** and mingling w/ chicks to entertain myself hahaha..... ahhhh the good ole days of concerts. This is the ONLY big band I've ever felt like walking out on and trust me I've seen alot of big names since 1977.

Go ahead, call me crazy HA HAA

Brain Salad Surgery is playing now AAHHHH

Yes I can imagine they can sound a bit rough live, I had the same thing with Boston it was just..boring.

Did u like the Nice. I had elegy before any elp and some great stuff on there..I even loved Lee Jacksons voice! Some great footage on u tube too,and love that Hammond.  to have stood next to keith Emersons leslie speakers would have been fantastic

Dave.

I have a fantastic lee Jackson story for another day though.

Absolutely yes I got into the Nice. How can ya not if you're an ELP fan. I have been casually looking for a signed Nice LP w/ Emerson. I may have to try harder now haha

And of course I was a HUGE King Crimson fan. Greg was their best singer IMO. I also had the pleasure of seeing them live w/ Bruford. Too cool. Ya don't walk out on shows like this HA HAA

I'll wait to here your story. Sounds interesting.

When I was at school groups like Genesis, Yes and ELP were for the middle class kids. Being from a more humble background I was more into new wave and people like Bowie, Iggy and Lou. I was also into some older stuff like Hendrix, Arthur Brown's Kingdom Come and Krautrock. I steered well clear of anything with a Roger Dean cover.

That makes it all the more surprising that my favourite gig of all time (so far) was probably Discipline (the reincarnated King Crimson) playing the University of East Anglia in May 1981. I was 19 at the time and the sound really blew me away, especially Tony Levin's bass and Fripp's guitar. Being in a small concrete bunker probably helped. The Discipline LP is a classic but the follow-ups sadly sank into the arty mainstream.

Oh my Lordy.... that sounds incredible

Discipline is freakn awesome. Definitely in the top. I remember plugging that into my walkman and smokn a **** and groovn as a teen

Good times

Oh ya... time for you to plug in some ELP

Love all those bands too and yes I kept clear of Roger dean covers.

The deluxe versions of some of ELP albums are interesting because they have alternate takes which show how some of the tracks evolved and how hard they worked on them, get the deluxe brain salad surgery and at the end there is a alternate take of karn evil 9 third impression, it's just hammond bass and drums no vocals or overdubs as yet and was one of many takes, they f*** up in the middle which is why it was abandoned and is a slightly different arrangement to finished version, but it sounds like it was recorded yesterday, and they are really on fire.

Well since this is turning into of a somewhat prog-rock thread... I'm gonna throw in Gentle Giant

One of my absolute favorites and no sigs to be found anywhere.

I've only met a few people that have seen them live in my 53 yrs on this planet

Yes but do they stick knives into their organs..
