Hi
I am interested in your opinions on the authenticity of signatures on this piece. Thanks in advance!

+1 - from what I have seen and learned here, this is too clean/precise to be authentic. There are some very particular traits I dont like, but Im hesitant to call out bc Id hate to “help” the forger.
The seller claims that it was signed at the Whisky A Go Go, and comes from someone who worked there from 1965 to 1998. It also includes the "original poster and two pictures from (the show)." The original poster is actually a reprint from the short-lived San Francisco Whisky A Go Go, and the photo shown is from a 1968 show in Cleveland.
Great information.... you know your stuff. How in the world does a collector find good autographs? If anybody has any for sale without breaking the bank let me know.
Thanks
John,
Pick your favorite subject and do all the research you can - find all the rock solid, air tight real ones you can and study them. Compare them to the questionable ones. Take the story into account too - does it sound too good to be true? Does the asking price match the story and/or the price of the rock solid examples? Is it even in the same zip code? An authentic Morrison sig would demand a fairly high price, all things considered. The little old lady who happens to find a real one undiscovered in her attic and is now selling it for pennies on the dollar accounts are few and far in between.
If you do this, you will undoubtedly become a near pro on the subject of your choice and you will also inevitably learn some of the tricks and gimmicks of the forgers. And your spider senses will tingle at the slightest scent of BS.
Im self taught and I do pretty darn good if I do say so myself. And with the likes of Ballroom and others around here, you'll greatly accelerate your learning in no time. Good luck and have fun!
Good advice... I’ll keep studying and looking but eBay seems to be a treasure trove full of you know what. Maybe a more reputable source to start with. Thanks for writing!
Have a good weekend!
You can find them on eBay - just be patient - and going back to the above, you are going to need to know your "stuff" in order to jump on the right one! By the time it takes to get somebody else's opinion, you might very well lose out on it to another savvy buyer. It pays to learn, no matter how you slice it!
Great advice from just some dude. It's also a good idea to familiarize yourself with known forgery styles. I've also seen some really nice authentic Morrison signatures on eBay. The problem is that in addition to the competition from fellow collectors, flippers are also looking to find anything they can cert and resell for a profit.
And that is a wrap, lol
I was browsing the ebay stuff just yesterday and skipped right past this one without even reading the description. Didnt pass my eye test and Morrison is a new study for me. And it should be stated that I have learned ALOT from you and I thoroughly enjoy your analyses - thank you and well done!
Thanks, dude. I appreciate it.
John, His signature is rare and in demand by collectors. There are bargains to be had, but they're few and far between. There are no known signed copies of the debut album. I don't even know what an authentic one would sell for, it one even exists.
I wouldnt be surprized if it fetched 30k.Just some dude, great advise to John and to all.
