Joe DiMaggio

I would like to begin by saying I am not a collector.  However, I recently found this newspaper page from April 30, 1939 from the Cleveland Plain Dealer in an old piece of furniture I was refinishing.  

The Joe DiMaggio signature was interesting so I went to the Plain Dealer historical archives and found the same page, which did not have the signature.

My friend, who owned the piece of furniture, told me that his aunt used to own a coffee shop on Rt. 20 in central Ohio in 1939 and that she used to get a lot of celebrities and athletes in her shop.

I then looked up the Yankees' schedule.  I found that they played in Detroit on May 2nd and 3rd and then in Cleveland on May 4,5,and 6.  All this would fit in that athletes usually traveled by car to their next games.

My question here is: Does this paper have in value in the Autograph collecting community?  I have not had the signature authenticating because I don't know if I should spend the money.

Personally, I wouldn't even spend the $10.00, even for a quick opinion. I don't think I've ever seen a Joe Dimaggio so sloppy, even in 1939. I don't like 1 characteristic of it compared to Dimaggio in that time period or any other. Awesome story though...

Thanks again.   I just know when and where I found it and that this piece of furniture sat in an out building for a very long time. 

Because I have known my friend over 30 years and how his mom would describe her sister, the "aunt", the story is plausible.  I guess the signing of this will remain a mystery.  

I wasn't trying to sell it or to make up a sappy story.  Attached is the piece of furniture I found it in. 

Whether he signed it or not, I'll never know.  Guess that's between DiMaggio and Auntie.

I would still consider the paper a real treasure coming out of that hutch, or whatever you furniture guys call it.
