Hello,

This Pistol Pete Maravich looks very clean and I wanted opinions on whether or not it is real. I would definitely bid on this if it were. Thanks.

Didn’t he normally sign only Pistol Pete??

I believe you’re right. I’ve just looked through about 30 PSA/jsa certified Pistol Pete Autographs on eBay and I didn’t find a single one with Maravich except for signed checks. And none with Pistol Pete Maravich. I will pass on this. Thanks for the reply.

Yes, I believe he did almost always sign “Pistol Pete”.  There are authentic examples of him signing “Pete Maravich”, but those are very rare and command pretty high prices.  If you found an authentic example of him signing “Pistol Pete Maravich”, it would perhaps command close to 5 figures.  So no there’s no way someone would start the bidding at $200 with no reserve if this were authentic.

Makes sense. Do you know what the range would be for an authentic Pistol Pete autograph? Could I secure one for around $500-600? Less?

There are some on eBay that are authenticated for $1000-$1500.  However, most are OBO (or best offer).  Look for one that’s around $1000 and if you offer $600, they might accept.  But I would definitely look for one that’s authenticated by either PSA/DNA, JSA, or BAS (Beckett).  I wouldn’t take chances on his autograph.

For a nicely signed basketball, signed “Pistol Pete”, you’re looking at probably over $5000.  Signed basketballs are very scarce.
