I agree with you, David....he's a tricky one and most of what is out there is just plain bad.  My eyes focused upon the inscription right away.

Another one like that is Burt Lancaster.  There is so much secretarial stuff bearing his "signature". I specifically sought out an exemplar that had an inscription that I could be sure of.  I also feel doubly sure of mine because it's inscribed and signed on a candid of him in an airport posing with two young fans rather than a stock publicity photograph:

Nice Lancaster! Been wanting to add one to my collection. You are totally right about the secretarial ones out there.

And some of them are pretty darn close.  There was a Lancaster autograph study in the old AUTOGRAPH magazine years ago.  Maybe someone still has a copy....and could make a scan of it. It was really helpful.

I do miss that publication.  Always would seek it out on the magazine racks each month at my local Borders (also gone, sadly).

Etienne, This exemplar should nail down a date time and prove the autograph….

David, that's a nice bold album page by Burt.

Not to wander away from your original post to far but something I have noticed is that some of the dealers over in GB/Europe come up with some nice surviving authentic Lancaster album pages and signed photos.  He made quite a few pictures over there from the 1950's onward and had a great following. I would even go so far as to say that he was taken more seriously as a "legit" actor there than here.

Here's a great shot of him signing autographs for children in London during the filming of THE DEVIL'S DISCIPLE c. 1959:

Markus Brandes out of Switzerland  typically has a few Lancaster’s but I’m waiting for the right one. A Sweet Smell of Success is what I really want.

That would be great.

Mark at Memorabilia UK has several album pages from the 50's .... I've wonder if one or two may have been from around the signing pictured above?
