Hello,
I've always wanted to add a Marilyn signed item to my collection. Julien's is currently offering some through their Hollywood Classic auction. Doubtful any will remain in my price range by auctions end, but on the off chance, should I be concerned that very few are authenticated? There are a few checks. A signed and framed piece with some pictures etc.
Any thoughts on if there would be a need to be concerned? A Google search turned up some concerns with some Michael Jackson autographs sold on the site a few years back.
Thank you in advance for any thoughts!

Please just post links to particular items. Julians make mistakes but also sell authentic items.
I just looked at the Julians Auction. The Marilyn cheques are great. So much writing on those cheques in the early 50s. Marvellous.
Thank you greatly Pauline!
All the items claiming to be her hand writing were authentic. Many I have seen for sale before.
I love the contact photo sheets. All the crossed and squiggled out photos are her doing. Cheaper than an autograph.
That signed JFK program is going to go through the roof!
Cheques are a great investment. Each one a snapshot of a day in her life. Often connected to known events, people in her life, services she used, clothing she was photographed in.
That JFK program would be amazing to have in a collection. Out of my league but so awesome to be able to even see it!
Hello Ryan,
Yes, you should be be very concerned about buying Marilyn Monroe signed photograph, letters, documents, etc at Julien´s. Why? I had recently a very unpleasent experience with the person who does the expertise to all Marilyn Monroe items to be auctioned at Julien´s. auction. His name is Scott Fortner which claims to have the largest MM collection, a person that people respect as a god!
Recently he sold me (among others items he claims came from the Lee Strasberg collection and sold by his widow, Anna Strasberg from MM personal collections, a letter sent from her mother Gladys Baker from Oregon where she lived by that time to her daugther Norma Jeane Dougherty, in Hollywood. Mr. Fortner sold it legitime and authenticated himself as sent from her mother Gladys with Marilyn handwritting word on the back of that envelope "answer", meaning: Marilyn wrote it to reming her to answer that letter to her mother in Oregon.
After consulting a few friends we decided to send that envelope to top autentication business called JSA Authentication. The answer from JSA was shocking: the whole envelope was a forgety, hand made, created with stamos, different inks and someone´s hand who put that word answer on the back of that envelope.
Enclosed herewith is both JSA letters of authentication confirming that envelope was not genuine!
PS. Never buy anything from an auction house signed by MM if they do not have an authenticated letter of it been a legitime piece.
Also I have been insulted by Mr Fortner during our conversation on messenger which I have included herewith too.
ps.1- enclosed herewith are the second part of the authentication letter from JSA.
Wow! I'm sorry to see this Harold. It made me nervous to bid on their last auction given that they hadn't had it Authenticated before listing it...or that they would at least stand behind it if a 3rd party felt the signatures weren't up to par. I felt confident in bidding once Pauline gave her opinion, but I would not have entertained doing so if not for a more trained eye than mine signing off on it.
Hi Harold
So this was a person to person sale, the connection to Julians being that Scott authenticates for them?
That word would not have been considered genuine if it had been posted here. You would have got a nice selection of feedback from good MM eyes on here. It looks terrible alright. I would not have been able to help with the envelope of course. Having said that though, the ink does not look 80 years old! Rather fresh.
Have you got any method of resolution for the ripoff?
Yes, Scott is considered an expert because he does own many items. I honestly don't think that means he is good at her signature though. Hmmm
In fact I disagree with him on his opinion on her signature a couple of times in the past. No confrontation, but seen him comment that a suss one or two was real, back when I was in a Facebook group.
PAULINE, hello there,
No, No answer back. He refuses to to find a resolution as sending back the MM vintage pieces I trade him for that piece. He is the expertise person who oks for any signed piece to be sold at Julien´s auction in Los Angels/CA.
ps. People dealing with him told me that he trades with other collectors for anything he finds interesting to add to his MM vintage pieces.
