Joe Dimaggio

Question about Joe Dimaggio. His later autographs in the 80s and 90s do not have the first letter I in DiMaggio. Usually. But as the photo exemplar shows, PSA has authenticated some as real. Dimaggio included the I in early contract signatures. And my theory was he used the I in 1970s signed balls and stopped using it when he started doing shows to save time. I thought the I on later balls meant secretarial or clubhouse signature. Anybody have a theory???

Great question and observation. I don't think the presence or absence of the "I" is a dealbreaker either way. There's rarely one factor that deems a signature good or bad -- it all really depends on a composite analysis.

I have four Dimaggios in my collection -- all PSA'd or JSA'd, I think at least one has the "I". They were all signed in the late 1980s through 1995. Not sure this is helpful, but it's all to say don't get too fixated on a single characteristic.
