Bowie can be a minefield these days. The first appears OK. Not sure what is going on under the other one in blue. Is that a "77/78" or?

Thanks Eric! I believe it is 76..

This was my 1976:

Nice!

The OP 1976 is too atypical for me.

I agree that it's hard to tell.. Both were "authenticated" by Andrew Peters, which I read seems like a bit of a scam? On his website he even thanks you :)

I assume not all examples on his website / authentications are fake, but some must be legit right?

Yes. they are mixed. Ford/peters is a forger. I would avoid anything from him that doesn't pre-date him. The second appears his.

Appreciate your opinion, thanks!

I took another look at the '89 autograph, and on the backside it shows some stamp / typewriter mark. Do you recognize this?

That stamp on the reverse (DB071989-02) is a classic archival or press inventory code, and it tells a very specific story. The middle string of numbers, 1989, is a near-certain indicator of when this specific physical print was processed or cataloged. this physical object appears to be a 1989 press or publicity release. The 07 and -02 typically refer to the specific folder and the frame number in a series. 'The "89" at the end of the signature aligns perfectly with the stamp on the back. It suggests Bowie signed this image during the Tin Machine era c. 1989, which was a pivot point in his career. Bowie would then release Black Tie/White Noise and The Buddha of Suburbia - and then the intense Outside.

Ah, thanks for explaining.

Outside: intense indeed, but has some terrific tracks!!

That first image, taken by Tony McGee, is severely cropped. It was originally taken in London in 1983 and this shoot produced Bowie's favorite photograph, which he sometimes had on him to sign.

I can see why he liked it, it’s beautiful!
