I bet those small indie shops that nicely sold those Stallone books for 25 pounds feel great after seeing those copies being flipped for 300. I also bet that the next time they are lucky enough to get something like that they will charge more.

Agreed, best examples are the McCartney books, with every new signed release fewer and fewer indie stores play ball, apparently even Waterstones cancelled online orders at 750£ to sell the lyrics through Hatchards at a massive markup: 10K!

This isn't a book shop. It looks like an online only autograph shop. Am I wrong that normal retailers are under contract where they can not go above a certain set price for promotional items? They are still used as advertising to create hype.. employees of shops couldn't care less, they still get their hourly wage. The owners are the only ones who would benefit and only if they risk breaking a contract if it is how they work still..

Just a quick search and found that there is no legal requirement and all retail pricing is a suggestion including promo items.. im not so sure though. Artists and publishers use signed promos to sell more albums and books, not to make shop owners rich..
