Signed guitars

Does anyone know anything about some kind of licsencing contract on signing guitars? Some artists or officials of artists state that they can't sign certain types of guitars, etc. I'm wondering if these contracts are actually real or perhaps it's just a personal preference.

Also, where would I go to get a signed guitar appraised? I got no idea where to start.

Hi Nicholas,

You do hear occasionally of musicians under contract. Things like Paul McCartney only signing Hofners. Others here know much more than I do. But if you have a signed guitar you need to have checked out, just upload it here and you should get some valuable feedback.

also, as fact or a real opinion, what do you guys know about signed guitars. I know alot of this make seem like obvious dumb questions, but I'm looking for more in depth answers to questions like "Why are signed guitars so rare/valuable?" "Why is it harder to get one than anything else?" "What goes through the artisit's head when asked to sign a guitar?" Things like that. Thanks.
