I saw this one on Gotta have it rock n roll auction.

It ended without any bid, but seems that it was moore succesful on ebay.

PS: I dont like EP sigs in red, but hey thats just me :-)

I don't think it's real. And if others thought it was it would probably go for $2,000+.

Thanks guys- I appreciate the input..after looking again it doesn't look like the Y in Presley is hooked/crossed the way it usually is..

Sometimes they weren't.

Not that it matters, it's closed, but it didn't look bad at all on a first look. The red, while not resale optimal, isn't improbable. The handwriting looks good and I can see him picking the red pen off the desk and 'many thank'ing after the sig. Elvis had a particular fondness for this little fan club and Gary Pepper had Elvis carte blanche, so if I were bidding, as much information on it's path from Gary Pepper to here would be key.

All that said, Elvis' signatures were all over the place and there was a lot of 'secretarial' signing, but all things considered, this merited a second look.

If it pans out, $535 ain't bad.

Thanks Chris!!  as far as the path here the auction states that it was obtained directly from the woman who had joined the fan club and gotten it back when she was 12 years old. Seems plausible to me, but IDK Elvis that well, so I appreciate the input. Based on everything what chance do u think its the real deal?? Thanks

Also- It is still available as I spoke to the seller yesterday- he has great feedback but doesn't know autographs and is selling it for the owner..Thanks

I think it's secretarial. The handwriting doesn't look like Elvis' to me. Ask the seller if the owner got it through the mail.

Yes- it did come in the mail- the seller thinks it was unlikely that Elvis had a secretary thru the fan club back then bc it was rather small club, but anything is possible!!

He told me "if its a forgery, then it was done by Gary Pepper himself or one of his assistants- which is highly unlikely given that the club had a small circulation following of only a few thousand" so yes it def came thru the mail- Thanks

How often did Elvis ever sign anything through the mail? Just when it was a bill or something. It's known that these fan club signings were always secretarial. A poster on this site a long while back posted some secretarial autographs from fan clubs that looked pretty convincing.

Gary Pepper was not only local, he had unfettered access to Elvis. While most fan club stuff is most likely secretarial, Elvis had a soft spot for Pepper. Pepper had an open invitation to Graceland and was on EP's payroll for nothing in particular for a number of years (till Elvis died). Talking with a good friend who's a respected Elvis collector this morning, he reminded me that whenever Gary would see Elvis, he'd get Elvis to sign tons of stuff. After both Elvis & Pepper died, a lot of his collection was evidently 'pilfered' by the (Elvis hired) nurse that abandoned Pepper when the Elvis checks stopped coming. She found an auction house to auction off the stolen items as 'The Gary Pepper Collection'.

Pepper's family was shocked to see this and made some legal action to halt the auction or freeze the proceeds. It's late for me, so I won't be doing any googling on it tonight, but it's an interesting story.

PS, I started writing all this just to say Elvis did virtually no mail signing. It occasionally happened, but as far as I know, he very rarely dealt with mail. He'd think nothing of regularly walking down to the gates or stopping the car to sign & chit chat with fans if he was bored or needed a shot of adulation. He was very good with fans.
