Hey all,
I came across this site http://www.behindthescenes.org.uk/prv_signing.php. They said they hosted a Pacino private signing; is this possible? The reason I ask this is because I am trying to learn about Pacino's signature a little more, and from the opinions of others, the Pacino's this site are selling are questionable. If the pieces are from the private signing like they said, they shouldn't be as "questionable" as an in person piece since Pacino is not rushed/in crowds or anything of that nature.
Just wondering,
Mike.

Thanks for your time Mike! What you're saying is completely valid and understandable. I was thinking that too: Maybe they were selling In person pieces and saying "from private signing?" And I agree, some of the few signatures I know about that they are selling seem to be spot on, but some (like the Pacino pieces) are fuzzy to me. More opinions would definitely help in the solving of this "private signing" case!

that's unbelievable! What a difference! When he signed for my friend some 10 or so years back he had literally signed a dot with a slash about half an inch long. Compared to the one above, there is no comparison. If I was in the shoes of an authenticator, I wouldn't even render opinions on his signatures that are scribbles..
I noticed the Behind the Scenes Pacino private signing thing a few weeks and also concluded that it never happened, which was disappointing. I was especially curious to see what kind of autographs he would give in a private signing, since just about every in-person example I've seen has been pure garbage. I guess it remains to be seen.
Actually seeing a decent one like the one Mike posted is pretty neat.
Hi everyone,
Let me introduce myself. I am Dominic the owner of Behind The Scenes Limited here in the UK.
Just for the record this was NOT a private signing and nor was it ever said to be a private signing. We get asked for Al Pacino so many times and sometime on images we would not normally try to obtain him on. We go to New York to collect regularly and at this time Al was in Theatre in NYC so we were offering our customers the chance to order items that they wanted signed. We would then go to the theatre which we did and try and get them signed, which again we did.
If you look on the website it doesn’t say anything about being a Private signing it just says we can take pre orders on Al Pacino. However, I can understand people can get confused as it is in the Private Signing section on the website. I will have to change that so thanks for pointing it out.
Al Pacino signature is a strange one and we also think of him as “A DOT” as normally that’s just what you get. However, there has been times both in NYC and at BAFTA in London when we have got him and the signature is FULL and amazing. So what can you say or do. I guess its down to the reputation of the company/person your buying from. With us we try and provide as much information as possible when we sell an item and more and more we are trying to get video footage. Just this week for instance we got Edward Norton after being refused from him for years. Luckily we also managed to get video proof.
Anyway, I hope this answers your questions regarding Al and if you have any other questions please feel free to contact me at anytime. enquiries@behindthescenes.org.uk
Thanks
Dom
Dom, welcome to AML... Hopefully you make quite a few added contributions.
as far as chasing public or private, methinks the way it was being promoted on your website it certainly gave a misleading illusion of having a private signing with ADot thus your assertions of it being incorrect would be completely inaccurate as this is what your site currently says:
in the states we would call this bait & switch or false and deceptive advertising especially given the impression of a private signing!
furthering the deceptive tactic it appears as:
Hi,
Thanks for the message and I can totally see and agree with you, but it certainly wasn’t my intention to mislead anyone which is why I didn’t say in the description a Private Signing. To stop any cunfusion I have removed that link from the website.
I look forward to some healthy autograph related discussions.
Many Thanks
Dominic
Very Good...glad to help out. when we see "pre-orders" here in the states, to me anyways, it is typically associated with a "show" and/or private signing (at the show or prearranged).
Since you are listed as; Behind The Scenes are a “UACC” Registered Dealer #260 and AFTAL Approved Dealer #005. We are also the winner of the AFTAL "IN PERSON" Dealer Of The Year Award 2011.
AML indeed will look forward to your contributions and informative discussions
Behind the Scenes are very well known and totally respected as one of the very best genuine dealers here in the UK
I once heard a story from Jason Thanos another of the UK's finest about Pacino. He was signing away very nicely and pleasantly for fans and signed his famous dot. The fan looked at it and said please Al can I have your full signature. At this Pacino just looked at him and said yeah sure. Then signed another dot and wrote Al Pacino under it
No one is saying they can't possibly be dealers of genuine autographs, but there has to be a distinction between "in person" signatures and a sit down paid "private signing." In a private signing a contract is set up with the celebrity and it is the company and the celebrity ONLY. I sort of got the hint it wasn't the traditional "sit-down" signing when Behind The Scenes said "no personalizations allowed;" (before it was taken down from the site) because usually in a paid private signings there would be little to no problem with that, but out in the crowds in the streets, that wouldn't be too easy would it?
From what I've seen, that looks like one of the nicer signatures that Pacino has signed.
