Having a private listing to mask bidder identies during an auction is one thing but when used in concert with private feedback it should be taken as a big red flag in the majority of cases. as McKnight has shown in his listings of a number of ebay sellers that were selling items with purposely hidden coas claiming the items were certed. Thus any sold item could not be viewed later. However, some of these same sellers on items not signed were not private and as such viewable.
I would never buy from a seller who makes ALL their auctions private! I dont see the need for that, and I would have to think that unless I have dealt with them alot that something was fishy. I would do a very detailed feedback check.. If their feedback is private, dont risk it
EBAY's generalized in typical manner is;
While there are some cases where private listings are appropriate, such as the sale of high-priced ticket items or approved pharmaceutical products, you should only make your listing private if you have a specific reason.
Thats what I was looking for Db. I dont sell on ebay . I didnt know where ebay stands on the private listing. Thanks for clearing up . Still , I dont think the buyer is in wrong . You should ask him his reason for the private listing. Maybe he is just a misinformed seller.
Well I cannot see what the seller has to worry about in the case of the photographs since he certainly could file a complaint with Ebay should anyone use them without permission. Why not send a cropped closeup of the ball in the picture if he does not want to show the whole thing. He probably just an overprotective seller, but on the other hand I am a bit of an overprotective buyer too. He does have an excellent rating so I would ask if I purchased the ball and submitted it to PSA and it does not pass would there be a refund.
I suspect is it as Anthony said - even if it is overkill. Problem with someone stealing someone elses inperson photos it doesn't just have to be on EBAY. He would have to prove they are his. That is why you see the "watermarks" on more knowledgeable sellers that go right across the middle of the item (even photoshoppers would have their hands full cropping those) rather than strips of paper. Then the other part is finding an item that is now using your photos which can be timeconsumming.
Not implying it in this particular item but don't be fooled because one has an excellent rating as the ratings don't tell the complete story about the item. Look at McKnight's postings on ebayers who were apparently selling non-certified items as certified. They all had excellent ratings as well. They also used "private" so noone could look at any items that had been sold in the last 90 days.
I think you guys are looking way to deep into this . The item is 100% genuine. It appears to be they are all signing the baseball in photos. The guy just hasnt figured out how to use photo editing to watermark his photos. It looks unprofessional , but none of those things make the autographs fake. The property slips are so no one steals his images. It use to be a huge problem on ebay .
Psa didnt drop the ball. The autographs are 100 % authentic.
Some of the advice given on this post is really bad. I dont see anything wrong with there reply on ebay. He has a concern with someone stealing his images, and its a huge concern on ebay . Every item the person has up is 10% legit. I think the problem is the person is not a professional . They may be a collector and get rid of extra stuff.
looks correct but people need to exercise caution especially when every sale is "private". The feedback is not set to private, in this case, as if it were the seller couldn't sell anything. The final buyer does show up in the feedback, btw, along with the feedback but the item is masked from viewing. It does this automatically after 90 days anyways but one can see the items sold within the first 90 days.
anthony - this item appears as you state but the seller's overall use of the "private" listings is way out of line with ebay's advisory along with the plastering of the authentication pictures as has been done is way over the top. Nothing wrong with the latter, just abit of overkill. And in other items this seller does say the signing pictures will be going with the item.
If these were high ticket items....The private listing option hides the identities and email addresses of all bidders, both during and after a sale. Only the seller and the highest bidder see the listing results, and only the seller knows who bought the item.
In scanning they don't appear as high ticket items but as you indicate if the feature exists people can use it.
Anthony,
You may be right, but you dont really have any right to say that my advice is bad. As the same could easily be said for yours. I gave an opinion, and i stand by it. While those slips of paper may appear to be just to keep others from stealing the images, they are placed over the item being signed in every photo where the ball may be seen. That is not coincidence. It may be for some other reason than authenticity, but it was done on purpose. So that in fact i would consider very good advice to be wary. My opinion is that i wouldnt touch it. Please dont criticize others advice as they are just opinions right or wrong. I dont tell others that they are giving bad advice even what i think it is. I may be wrong, but i deserve the respect as every other member. If im wrong then im wrong, but i dont appreciate the comment.
I really am sorry for the way I came across . I am here to help Crystal . I see your problem with the proof photos. But to say Psa is wrong and the seller is hiding something . I am just trying to figure out what people think when they are buying . As I sell as well .
This item is authentic . I understand an opinion on a autograph , but an opinion on a seller is diffrent. You are telling her the autograph is bad based on the proof photos ? Not based on the autograph actually being a forgery .
When I researched there last 30 days of sale on items on ebay search i discovered that one of the private ones was the oranged colored ball being signed. I matched when it was sold on the search to when it was on the buyers feedback side.
Does that send a red flag to you ?
Can you explain to me what the problem with that is ? Cause that ball looks to be authentic as well.
No that didn't raise a red flag I was just saying that I was able to search his last 30 days of items sold and see some of the items listed that were considered private.
Oh ok. I see what your saying.
