Hello everyone,

I recently came across this item on ebay and thought it was pretty interesting. I am not sure of its authenticity because Kurt's signature varied so much, but if price is any kind of a give away, it looks like alot of people think its real.

If it is real, i thought it would be nice to have a scan of it here so that others could compare it too in the future since its a pretty unique piece.

Any thoughts?

I like it personally

It's fake.

I have my reservation on the quote "God is Gay" writing especially the letter "G". I have compared it to the letter "G" on Kurt Cobain's journal and it is not even close. Also the letter "d" is different. That is my personal obeservation and opinion.

Steve you say its fake but based on what? How about letting us know why you think that.

Michael, see my reply from Tuesday, below. When someone tries to decieve you on anything, in this case putting in the title that it's PSA/DNA, then you have to assume the autograph is bad. It will be almost every time.

Steve all that matters is the autograph. The story or the title who cares. I don't. In all cases the autograph does the talking. I am not sure on this one yet. I am still researching it.

I hope you don't opine on other autographs based on what they write in the title. If you do please stop. It would be very bad business for people to make decisions of authenticity based on the story or description.

Please discuss the signature and how it does or does not differ from Kurt's known good examples and please post the examples you used. Be sure to discuss flow, slant, speed. letter formation, spacing and etc and be sure to add that it is simply your opinion.

Here is an IP Kurt for everyone to use:

Michael,

At best, Kurt Cobain autographs don't talk...they mumble. When someone lies in the title of a listing it is a huge red flag, and Cobain is one of the toughest, most inconsistent rock autographs around. Roger rarely authenticates them for that reason.

Since I replied below, the seller has added an answer to the listing. Why? Because someone pointed out that that Nirvana was performing somewhere else when his "uncle" supposedly got it signed.

Nice rambling, less than likely description.  Story jumps from the size of the notepad to a Halloween party to his own personal collecting habits.  Also includes the thoroughly loathesome "guaranteed to pass third party authentication" bit, one the most worthless assertions I ever see in any autograph auction.

Yup...Rich, you got it!

  • It's listed as PSA/DNA certified in the title, but it hasn't been submitted. It's simply guaranteed to pass PSA/DNA or JSA. If they lie there, they're lying period.
  • The rambling story of how it came about being offered.
  • The seller's comment that he collects sports autographs (why he's not keeping it).

It could look perfect and I wouldn't trust it.

This one's widely considered genuine.
