Michael Jackson Signing Styles in Julien's Tompkins and Bush Sale
On December 2, Julien's Auctions is selling The Collection of Tompkins and Bush. The collection contains 465 lots of Michael Jackson memorabilia, 287 of them autographed.
Michael Bush and the late Dennis Tompkins were Michael Jackson's costume designers for 25 years, during Jackson's most successful period. They were the consignors of the signed Thriller jacket that Julien's sold for $1,800,000 in June 2011.
Almost all of the autographs in the Tompkins and Bush sale are a variation I'm not familiar with. I've only been looking at Jackson's autograph for a few years, though, and we have members here who have collected him for decades, so I'd appreciate your input and exemplars.

Julien's is the world's premier auction house for Michael Jackson memorabilia, so they would know his autograph better than most of us. I'm just surprised I haven't seen this style before.

I don't claim to be an expert on Love, but the "Love" in the first image is very similar to the way "Love" is written in most of the autographs signed that way in the auction. And that's differently than the way I've seen Michael Jackson generally write it.
The second image is too small, but from a distance it looks genuine.
I don't think the third image was signed by MJ but it's signed on thin cloth, and I don't feel I have the expertise to be relied upon on it.

Love is the hardest thing to claim to be an expert in, but lets remove the second image as you think it genuine. The 1st and 3rd were both written on cloth so that sould not be a factor.
The 1st image is said to have been signed by Michael Jackson.The 2nd image is said to have been signed by Michael Bush.

Mike,
There are many images in the sale that have "Love" that looks like the one in the second image, which is Bush's autograph, and I think you'll get your point across better using some of those. For instance, at least four of the images I posted at the top of this discussion have a similar version.
And of course, the M in Michael and the N in Jackson looks very similar to the M in MIchael and the H in Bush in the image with the gold jacket.

Good evening everyone , I just was able to get back here for the first time today. Before I catch up on reading all of your new input, I just want to mention something I had noticed a few days ago.
Hi Michael (Frost :) ... On these photos, I'm not sure whether the second photo you attached here was an example of a signature you felt was authentic or not? It is the signature to Bush and Tompkins on page 114 in the Bush auction catalog.
The reason I'm asking is because in all of the hundreds of forgeries in the catalog, there IS ONE MJ signature that does look genuine, authentic to me. I've attached a second photo of it here. This came from a French fan who sent me some photos last week from inside Bush's "exhibition".
Seems Bush is showcasing this ONE because (imo) it's the ONLY authentic one and he's trying to LEGITIMIZE the rest of the forgeries via this ONE. That is Mike's print handwriting, I know it anywhere. The signature is not the prettiest example I've ever seen him make, but it looks genuine.
Please note the way he prints the word "always". I've seen him do this time and time again.
Lower case scripted "al", a break, then his curved at the bottom (not pointed) "w", then into a capital "A" ys.
I can't remember a time when I didn't see him write "always" this way. I've included another example of this in my second and third photos. btw, these photos are small :( I will look for a larger example.
What does everyone think?P.S. - I agree though that the "Love" is something that I'm not completely confident about.

You're welcome, happy you gained from watching it. Yes to all to said - amazing that he could replicate so well his normal size writing into a larger size. That he could sign so large and still make it so pretty :)
The left slant, yes I know that left slant. Very familiar. I have a big problem with the right slant you mentioned which is present in the Bush auction signatures. As you said, Michael produced a left slant or vertical - I've not ever seen a right slant from him.
YES and a difference in the "Love".... where is the Love? :)
I also look for those two peaks in his M and N (if he's making the peaked N)... From childhood up to Thriller era he used a rounded, not peaked N in Jackson, like the N in "children" on the chalkboard, but usually even larger, more rounded and sometimes with a trail-off on the final stroke.
