Michael Jackson Signing Styles in Julien's Tompkins and Bush Sale
On December 2, Julien's Auctions is selling The Collection of Tompkins and Bush. The collection contains 465 lots of Michael Jackson memorabilia, 287 of them autographed.
Michael Bush and the late Dennis Tompkins were Michael Jackson's costume designers for 25 years, during Jackson's most successful period. They were the consignors of the signed Thriller jacket that Julien's sold for $1,800,000 in June 2011.
Almost all of the autographs in the Tompkins and Bush sale are a variation I'm not familiar with. I've only been looking at Jackson's autograph for a few years, though, and we have members here who have collected him for decades, so I'd appreciate your input and exemplars.

Julien's is the world's premier auction house for Michael Jackson memorabilia, so they would know his autograph better than most of us. I'm just surprised I haven't seen this style before.

Manu, If true it doesn't surprise me. After Darren disrespectfully allowed Gaga to try on Michael's 1991Academy Awards jacket for a photo op.

Again, if true she paid (Lot 769) $180,000. As Steve astutely questioned - the jacket was UNsigned.
Darren probably tipped her off not to bid on the fakes.

Lot 583 - over $51K for Mike's 1973 Oscar performance outfit - a piece Bush had nothing to do with the creation of. I'm surprised he didn't scribble "To Bush" on this, too.
Picking up on what Michelle said earlier, MJ was a collector and a preserver. He painstakingly assembled the personal Jackson family memory room on the top floor of the family's Encino home. Proudly filling the room and the walls with Jackson family memorabilia - to document, honor and celebrate what they had all achieved as a family. Janet says he saved all of her schoolwork - preserving EVERYTHING. Family and personal history was of the utmost importance to Michael.
These symbols of his achievements sold tonight - his clothing. He wanted and deserved to have formally honored, preserved and displayed in a museum.

I hear you Sandy. Don't know if we would get an accurate answer there. This was a licensing agreement with the estate. ...Still can ask.
I remember all of this Bravado stuff flooding the market. It was after MJ's murder.

Taaj, Wendy, be careful though - the article also says this in following paragraph:
"This new agreement builds upon the deal already in place between Bravado and AEG Live that placed Bravado as the exclusive merchandiser for Mr. Jackson's tour at The 02 arena in London. With this new deal, which has been done directly between the Estate and Bravado, the company will now exclusively create, market and distribute the majority of Michael Jackson-related products on a global basis."
BUILDS UPON THE DEAL that was already in place when Michael was alive for This Is It merchandise.
It is HIGHLY UNLIKELY but possibly the cutout was made for advance approval before Michael died.
Again, obviously I doubt that with my whole heart, but we have to cover all the bases.
Need to know when in 2009 so we can definitely rule out that thing was anywhere near Michael to be signed.

there are 2 good points for having Gaga buying MJ most iconic pieces of the collection
-she was in attendance so price didn't skyrockets as expected, people may have feared she was going to bid as crazy. So bush didn't get as much $$$ as he thought
-those iconic pieces will go in the hand of someone that RESPECTS MJ. (well someone should better tell her to not pose with mj's costumes)...

She bought 55 pieces, all of the most significant ones. It is the best we could have hoped for afterall I guess - still together in the hands of one that will likely rightfully care for them.

I have received a text tonight from Mr. Darren Julien. @ 7: 16 PM>> " I hope you have good attorneys. Can you advise me who your legal council is?.> I am coming after you, Epperson and Cyrkin for slander. My attorneys have all the documents printed out."I can not understand, I have never said anything negative against Darren or Julien's. I offered to help him free of charge and I even told him, I believe that he would never knowingly sell an autographed that was not authentic. I tried to show him the issues of concern and the autograph analysis designed with exemplars. He considers that slander??
