Hi all,

I'm an absolute beginner in collecting autographs. Well, it's not even my goal to obtain a large number of autographs and to spent thousands of euro's. I just want a couple of memorabilia from my favourite artists to hang on my wall.

But of course, I want to be 100% sure that the autograph is genuine.  I like Oasis so I started looking for items of them. I didn't even know that sites like this or authenticators like PSA/JSA existed.
As a beginner, I began to look at ebay, bought something from Oasis there, but it didn't pass quickopinion PSA and I got refunded. I should have done better research :-)

Than I bought this item on the britishpopstore:

http://www.britpopstore.co.uk/store/products-page/all-oasis/definit...

Since they are Aftal dealers and specialize in Oasis memorabilia, I can assume this is genuine right? The autographs looked good to me. But some extra opinions here would be very nice.
2 other questions
- are UACC and AFTAL dealers almost always reliable?
- Is quickopinion PSA reliable?

Thx for the feedback!!
Regards

Hi Bjorn.  Thanks for posting.  I'm sure someone with a decent knowledge of Oasis autographs will throw in their opinions soon.  Perhaps some people with a good knowledge of this seller will too.  Unfortunately, I have neither :)

What I can tell you is that there are great dealers and some spotty ones - even amongst UACC and AFTAL.  AFTAL in particular is going through some pretty significant turmoil at the moment that could possible even dissolve the organization.  At one point about 10 years ago, I did proceed under the premise that all UACC registered dealers must be legitimate.  As a result, I got burned several times.  This website is a great place to start for scouting reports on who the good dealers are and who to avoid.  There is such a wide variety of of knowledge and interests here, that someone is bound to be able to help you.

You'll also see a good deal of debate about the merits of PSA and JSA in general on this forum.  I'm personally not a particularly big fan of either company,  I can tell you that Roger Epperson specializes in rock music autographs should you need a pro's opinion on this one.  He might be a better reference than PSA.

Thx for your reply Rich!
I hope indeed I'll get some oasis experts to give their opinion.
I have 2 other autographs: an LP cover from the who signed by pete Townshend and a pearl jam cd jacket signed by Eddie vedder. The first seller was an UACC and AFTAL dealer and quickopinion PSA said likely genuine. The PJ item was fully authentified by PSA. Autographs looked nice too so i'm nearly 100% sure they are authentic :-).
I do have the impression that a lot of sellers on Ebay are rubbish. But nearly all of them always get positive feedback. Even I as a beginner can mostly tell their not genuine. I don't understand how those sellers get away with that...

Even pros don't really understand how they get away with that!

I thought at first it looked off but having given a closer look I think this is okay and matches others I've seen.

Ok thx! Their other items look fine too for me, so I guess they can be trusted...

This is the CD that I got signed in person by the band in 1994 and 1995. These are nice and early autographs from the original line up. Just to compare.

Thx for the example! What's your opinion on my item?

I'm not all crazy about Guigsy's autograph, but it could be that he had a bad day. The rest looks fine.

Hello guys

We obviously heard the Fiasco of AFTAL and the way they have handled suspected fakes via their own board members

Im UACC, but appaerently people have problems with their members too

You have to find a trusted seller and keep with them

Im not 100% sure this item is right, I definately think the Guigsy is way off

I dont know these sellers and I usually know most in the UK

I looked over their other Oasis stuff and most of the Liams are all different, and Im not liking them even tho some are probabaly correct

I would keep away

Thx for the reply guys. I just did a quickopinion Roger Epperson. I'm curious what the result will be...
I got a reply from Roger stating that something isn't right about this item. I asked him if he could give some more details...
I'm very dissapointed, didn't know that obtaining a genuine item is so hard. I don't say this is a forgery but I get the feeling 90% out there can't be trusted... Guess I'll have to keep on searching.
