I'm very green in the autograph hobby... so I apologize if this is an Autograph 101 question.  With all the bad autographs in the market that are priced low, how do I properly value my merchandise?  For instance, I recently bought a Guitar Magazine signed by Metallica in 2004.  I read the Autograph Mag article about Metallica, checked against the autograph habits, and my seller's story seemed to be legit.  However, I had no idea what I should be paying for this.

Any feedback/advice is appreciated.

I also have a question. i'm a new guy in this site. the reason i logged in here is that i want to sell an autographed Def Leppard ticket. The ticket was signed by all members of the band in year 2003 nov 18, in Lithuania, Vilnius, while the band was on its tour promoting the "X" album. I met the band after the concert and got my concert ticket signed by all the members. The ticket is in very good condition. I will post a photo if it is possible to post photos on this site. My question is, can you guys help me sell the ticket and give me any clue what a starting price could be. If anyone in this site is interested in buying my lucky ticket, contact me through private messages or publicly. But first of all i'd be really grateful if any experts around here could really give me a clue about the price, cos i don't wanna get fooled. Thank you very much for any information in advance.
Re: Metallica item -- why are you so worried about putting a value to your item?
A Metallica item, from that year (not one of their earlier pieces), if authentic, is probably worth a couple hundred bucks.

Selling items is such a weird thing. You could some day come across a Metallica fan that would give you a thousand bucks for it. Other times, hardcore fans have something signed by, maybe drummer Lars Ulrich, and some guitar tech. And they wouldn't part with the item if you stuck two grand in front of them. And that's the way it should be. They have an emotional attachment to it, and want to keep it.

The Def Leppard probably isn't worth a whole lot. Those guys are all great signers, signing all the time. THey had a brief period of time where they charged anyone that asked, $5 for autographs. That money all went directly into a charity they did.

Any other questions, feel free to ask. No bad questions here, so don't worry.
well, i was hoping def leppard ticket signed by all the band could be worth couple hundred bucks:) it's not that easy to get to the band and get signed something.. well i hope i'll find some die hard fan, that could offer a good price. like you say, Josh, some fans could give away a lot just to have their favorite idols' autographs..
@Travis... thanks for the insight. What do you think about the Sander's price guide they sell on the site?

@Josh... Two reasons I want to know how to value. 1) I'm buying this stuff... not necessarily getting it in person. So I want to have a general idea what the autographs are worth so I don't get burned myself; 2) When I come across a piece that makes sense but I don't really care about it, I'd like to be able to flip it. i.e. Metallica is not my favorite band... but I picked this up for $75.00. I figured, just on instinct, that I could probably sell it for $150 - $200... but I wasn't sure... maybe it's worth $500 and I could hold it and sell it for more? I'm not knowledgeable enough yet to wade through the junky prices out there on fake Ebay products.

Thanks to both for the feedback. This is fun.
Hey Matthew, never feel weird about asking questions here! We all were newbies at sometime. We all learn from each other. That's what this blog is for. I have a Metallica picture signed I got way back in 93ish. Your Lars signature is real close to mine, but the others are not. Signatures change over time. Drop Roger Epperson an email, he has always responded when I contact him.

Well i'm a newbie to this site also. I'm not a collector nor am I attached to my item, i would just like for someone who really appreciates the band to have it. I have an autographed concert ticket signed by Lyrnd Synrd from the ninties. I also have a picture of me with the base player to prove it is authentic. What would something like this be worth? Thank you
