A post dated government post card such as this is very likely authentic.
The vast majority of players signed their own fan mail in this era, especially a player who was not a superstar.
Not sure about Vintage autographs but Quality Autographs is owned by Kevin Keating who is one of the foremost authenticators in the business although he is more of a buyer/seller as his first line business.
He is used as a consultant for other authentication companies and is used by some smaller auction companies as their independent authenticator.
His autographs are as likely to be authentic as any authenticated by JSA or PSA/DNA and many people would consider him superior to either on vintage autographs.
However, his prices are extremely high so you have to weigh the price against the value of the autograph.
You can normally buy a JSA or PSA/DNA authenticated item for less on the open market than from him but he is very well known and respected.
Thank you Randy, I appreciate the info ! He is very pricey but he is the only one who has some of the autographs that I'm looking for. Dave Jolly is the only one I lack from the 57 Braves but I'm also very slowly collecting the 1914 Miracle Braves as well. Needless to say, most of those are TOUGH and next to impossible to find. If you have any ideas of where I could find vintage baseball autographs I would appreciate it. I have gotten most of mine through auctions and Ebay.
Rhonda,
You are a high level collector. I expect finding 1914 Braves autographs would be quite a task.
The National Sports Collector's Convention which is in Cleveland this year would be the place to find them. Other regional shows such as the Philly show which is going on this week in Philadelphia and The Sun Times show in Chicago in a few weeks would also be a good place to likely find them. There will be many dealers with extensive inventory at all of these shows although the National is by far the best one.
I think you can also create a want list on Ebay of exactly who you are looking for and if those items are listed for sale by anyone on Ebay, you will receive a notice to prevent having to search for them each day. I know this was an option at one time but may be something Ebay has now dropped but you might check on it.
I just checked and Ebay has indeed done away with the "Want to Buy Option."
Guess they were not getting enough sales driven through it to maintain it.
It started out with the 95 Braves, then I moved on to the 57 Braves and decided to just see what I could find with the 1914 Braves. I started out with just their cards, but saw a few autographs I could afford here and there and that started my quest. I highly doubt that I will ever complete the MIracle Braves due to them being so scarce and expensive, but it's a fun treasure hunt. Johnny Evers is one in particular that I will never have unless I win the lottery. Lol Unfortunately due to my health I'm not able to travel to these shows, but I would love to.
Thank you so much for the great info and yes, Ebay has unfortunately dropped that option. However, you can follow searches so I have done that with each of the players I need.
Stinson Sports and Les Wolfe are a couple other large autograph dealers that carry a lot of inventory.
They have both been around for a long time but Wolfe is sort of like Kevin Keating from a price standpoint but Stinson is usually very reasonable.
You can probably send Jim Stinson your want list and he may have some of the ones you need.
Yeah, Evers will be very pricey but many of the others can be obtained at reasonable prices considering they won the Championship 100 years ago.
Good luck in your quest.
