Hi Guys,

There might be another thread with the same name somewhere on the blog, but i haven't seen a thread i can recall that dealt specifically on this topic. And its something i find really interesting and exciting. I think all of us have occasionally come across an amazing autograph, often extremely rare, offered for an unbelievably low price.

Now, im not talking about your average deals here. We come across great values all the time, but coming across items that have a value of 3 to 4 times what you paid for them, if not much more, is more uncommon. And its those that i find so interesting. And i would love to hear what you consider your best "steal" on an autograph.

Mine would probably be my Wes Montgomery "Travelin Wes" gatefold signed mint LP. I purchased this off ebay a couple years back. The guy was selling it for his friend who was a bar manager at a club Wes played at. He had Wes sign the LP and then he put it away. The signature is large for a Wes signature and very bold and distinct. It is the best signature example i have ever seen from him. I paid 200 BIN for it.

Realistically that item probably would go for 1500 to 2000 dollars at a high profile auction. RR sold a nice full sig Wes photo a while back and it got around 1400 i think. So as far as value, thats probably my best. Whats yours?

My greatest steal was when I bought 9 Rolling Stones 40 Licks signed Lithographs for $250.00 each! It was on Ebay with a bin. The seller had 18 of them and they were all sold within 24 hours. They were all brand new and not even rolled!

Bjarne, that is just sick! If you ever want to earn $50, I can buy one from you for $300... ;-)

My greatest bargain is this 1977 signed playbill from the broadway play "My Life" staring Christopher Reeve, William Hurt (Academy Award Winner), Jeff Daniels and some others. I love it because Christopher Reeve's auto is in blue and is absolutely beautiful. I payed a grand sum of 39.99 for it on eBay and it just came back as authentic through PSA/DNA (VO9387 - registration).

Another fantastic bargain I got were these one of kind (even though have 8) signed Christopher Reeve acting contracts. I acquired all 8 for $900 and they pertain Reeve's social security number and other unique information.

The contracts were signed September 6, 1977 during the filming of Superman and leading up to his cult classic Somewhere in Time. Some of the contracts are from his acting agency at the time as well as the Screen Actor's Guild and The Motion Picture Association.

These contracts came from Phil Sears (Renown Disney Authentication Expert) who had the contracts in his desk since the 80s. He had a contact at the Actor's Agency who was supposed to shred the documents (they pertained private info and such). However, the contact saw the value in these documents and got them to Phil. I called one day randomly about Christopher Reeve autographed items and he said he would've never called me back (he deals exclusively Disney) but the name Christopher Reeve joggled his memory. At that point knowing he had these tucked away we both felt like it was meant to be...and the rest as they say is history!

I just got back 3 of them from PSA (V09384, V09385, V09386) and will authenticate the others eventually.

I bought A Jim Thorpe signed 8x10 of him in football uniform (Signed on the front not the back) for $45 shipped. It was inscribed To Larry the pancake king, best wishes from Jim Thorpes son Jack Thorpe 1958, and Underneath it was signed Jim Thorpe 1952. It was being sold as signed by Jim Thorpes son only, the seller thought the Jim Thorpe part was part of the picture itself not realizing it was clearly signed in ink, the picture was likely signed by Thorpe then given later as a gift as far as the dates are concerned. I hava a jsa full letter on it now. I know R and R can get up to 2000+ just for his cut autos, so it would fair well I think Its worth roughly around 100 times what I paid on a good day

sweet deal!   Do you have a picture to share?
