Ok here is what I know so far. New era baseball caps have been arround since 1934. Joe died in 1999. So let's start there. So it is possible. Now the autograph......To be continued....
Ok that's a start. It's terrible to admit, but I really don't know much about caps. I see sometimes people put that a cap is New Era in their descriptions, so I went ahead and mentioned it, even though it probably doesn't have much relevance. Anyway, I think I've seen that style of "gg" before in authentic examples, but I'm not certain. I do know that he did vary a fair amount.
This is a good one nice post! I never buy caps by the way. For this reason. Display purposes are limited. Autographs look bad on hats most of the time. You know what else is funny when its on some cheasy 80s hat that comes to a point on the top! Hahaha! It might as well have a propeller on the top!

On a more serious note I say this looks pretty cool!
Hey, like in the Men Without Hats video from the 80s. Lots of pointy hats. I once had an umbrella hat that I wore on Venice Beach when I visited LA in the 90s. There were so many cool yet freaky people there, but they thought I was the freakiest of all because of my umbrella hat! Anyway, do you really think it's authentic? I was never sure since it wasn't authenticated.
I'm Just weary of it. It reminds me of an operation bullpen type of item. I would see these at the local card shop. I remember all the mickey mantle joe dimaggio whitey ford and so on that were so plentiful in the 90s! So much that I always wondered if they were even real. I m still giving this one some thought before I make a final statement on this.....
Ya I know. I think Joe D is a tough one in general. I even heard stories that stuff that came from his estate might not be always real, and that his attorney I believe was pretty good at signing his name. So if you can't trust his estate... At the same time, this does not look "drawn". It has pretty good flow to it. I'd say it was signed with speed. If it was done by a forger, it was a confident one. I hope it wasn't Operation Bullpen.
My thoughts exactly! Speed is there for sure. Hmm I'm not getting the best feeling from this....I mean hmmm what year was it supposedly signed? The ny is very bright on this thing even for a 1999 item if that. I picture this guy with this fake coa or something. Prolly no coa cause he is ashamed of it.
You know what though this damn thing looks pretty good. The ink appears to have aged......You also have to take into account its a larger signature on a rougher surface......
Your going to have a lot of pen drag on the surface. I'm glad I never bought a signed hat. I never saw one that i honestly liked enough to buy.
Ya I may never be quite sure on this.
That's the problem it takes a lot of convincing to sell this as authentic.
Here's another ball. This I guarantee is authentic. I've seen some ridiculous forgeries out there. And if mine is, it was a pretty decent attempt. I still think it might be authentic, but I just don't know. This one has the hooked hood on the D similar to mine also.
