Sir Paul was in my town a month back, so I tried to meet him. It was only about 4 of us at the airport and I thought he might actually sign for us. He did roll down the window and wave. I still think that was pretty cool. He didn't even have to do that… just could have keep driving.
NOW - I tried to meet him when he was leaving. Still only about 4 of us. It was cold and late at night.. which is ok - part of the game. His body guard came over and asked us to leave the parking area and wait by the street. Really… ok no worries we can just wait in the grass. He then went on to say - Paul has not stop to sign anything this tour - BUT if he does you have to write "YOUR NAME" "the CITY we are in" and the "Date". REALLY??? At the time I didn't raise a fuss, but later on I really wish I had. The reason we had to write all the crap on our album was because of "Ebay" according the to body guard. Really EBAY!! Please… Is Ebay really hurting Paul McCartney. I wanted to say… instead of complaining about ebay - why doesn't he just charge a fee and donate it to his favorite charity. Still has me shaking my head…. I am glad I didn't write all that crap on the album and ruin it. Oh - and Paul didn't stop btw.

Agreed - I would respect them more if they said - "Look I'm tired, I worked hard and I have to catch a plane. Sorry." Not the "He doesnt sign anymore because of ebay crap." I just dont buy it!

Agreed, and it was a cold, frustrating night out there.
What´s so difficult to understand on the attitude that he hates the whole disgusting autograph business? I do understand him, because as you may have noticed already, I hate the business side of autographs too. It´s like cancer killing it for everyone. You give autograph to people who are supposed to be your fans, not scalpers or dealers and not even autograph collectors (I would differ between fans of musicians and autograph collectors). This is never-ending discussion, but I understand when artist give an autographed item for charity, but mainly - artist is giving an autograph for free for someone who is supposed to be his fan. The main point is about the "relationship" and meeting between star and fan.... and someone completely unwanted invades and destroys this relationship.
I have to agree.
Signing autographs is, in its own way, a favor that's being done for the fans. If a lot of people then turn around and try to profit off that favor, it sours you on doing it again.
I don't see what there is to not buy about that.
I can name several people off the top of my head who didn't/don't think it's right to charge for their autograph & refuse to do it (even for charity) and also despise the way it's being sold second hand.
It doesn't seem that hard to understand to me.
They don't owe anyone that 10 seconds, be it a kid or anyone else.
And, again, there's a difference between ethics and intelligence.
Signing autographs in exchange for money is for some.
And that's exactly what you're suggesting be done.
This reminds me of Mr. David Gilmour. There was a time he was more then happy to sign autographs. What changed him was most of the things he was signing for his "Biggest Fan in the world" was being offered for sale on eBay and every other outlet you can think of. He finally said ENOUGH! If anyone should get the money for my autograph its me and you know what I understand that I don't have to like it but I understand. Scott
yes; - I was gutted when he didn't sign as I am a big Floyd fan. I can understand it but when you are a P Floyd fan it still grates especially when you see the stars signing for people who are obviously runners; - still what can you do? ps - I like your logo
Thanks for the complement, As I am sure you can tell by now I am a Floyd fan. I was lucky enough to have seen them live 8 times. Starting in 1971, love the band but finding a Dark Side of the Moon autographed by all 4 members its more likely I will win the lottery and be hit by lighting.... Twice! Scott
