That is a good question. Things that make you go...hmmm?! Not sure if there's enough there to authenticate Shoeless Joe.
You know, I know that the attractiveness of an item like that is not just the autographs, but also the rarity of the card (1/1). But come on...$22,000! Manufactured rarities like that do not really add value to me anyway. But to each his own. I could think of a lot better items to spend $22K on, though.

yikes

Shoeless Joe didn't sign his name much.  I wonder how they would authenticate it.  Must have had some superb prominence with it.

Their PSA and they probably googled for exemplars. Somebody will buy off on their opinion. Suckers are born every minute.

The Joe part was cut from a full signature. Historic did this so there could be 2 cards. 1 with Joe and Pete, and the other with Rose and Jackson. Pretty stupid if you ask me.

That is maybe the dumbest idea I've ever heard. In reality, they ruined the autograph with doing that crap!

Good chance the signature wasn't authentic anyway.

You're right and even if it was, it looks like crap. When I hear things like that, it gets me mad. I hated reading recently that a card company purchased another Ruth jersey that will once again be cut into tiny pieces and inserted into cards. Doing that ruins a piece of history MO.

If I remember correctly, when this card first hit ebay it sold for around $4 or $5k

Ya, I'd pay the former for it - four bucks. Not into single-name autographs.

if real its ruined why cut it up.  so stupid.
