Thanks for being so helpful, Kyle Merchant. I could almost see you rolling your eyes. So, tell me, what am I missing? Is it my question about Art of Music, my story about the guitar, my willingness to sell for low? Maybe I shouldn't have even tried this board...

Chris,

I'm going to feature this and hopefully others more qualified will comment. One of the things I don't get is that the COA says you'd get a refund if a board of examiners said the item isn't as described. What's a board of examiners?

But...the other thing is that the signatures look to me that they were all signed by the same person, and that's what Kyle likely also saw, too.

Another big warning sign is that it's an S-101 brand guitar. I have never seen that brand of guitar with signatures we thought were genuine. It's one of the two main brands of choice by Gallery of Dreams, perhaps the world's largest supplier of forged signed musical instruments. Mostly guitars and drum heads. Christopher Morales was one of their executives according to their executive profiles page, and did all their authentication as I know of. And Gallery of Dreams was the supplier of the altered signing photos exposed in this ABC News 20/20 report: http://live.autographmagazine.com/video/abc-news-2020-on-american.

Thanks Steve. I assume a board of examiners is not then, say, a third party one hires to do some additional authentication? God it is confusing. I should probably get on the phone with the company and ask for an explanation. I'm gonna take a look at the ABC news piece but it just shocks me that such a visible company in Las Vegas would give the piece to a hospital charity auction and then it gets all these high bids, etc. It came to me as a gift so I really feel most bad for the person who got it at the auction. But that person has a lot of money anyways..haha..but still. I would love it if it wasn't fake, but if anyone has any suggestions on how to find out, I'm very open to hearing. :)

I'll ask Roger Epperson to stop by and take a look. He's a highly respected rock authentication expert. You can call The Art of Music tonight and ask them how to handle authenticity concerns.

hi,that is definatley a fake,it looks like one of autographs america's masterpieces..im surprised brian jones's signature isnt on it.

I've met the Stones more times than just about any other dealer out there and it's almost always a dead give away on a likely forgery when looking at Charlie Watts signature. I think because most people do not understand the signature so they (the forgers) almost never get it right.

You are right. The "simple" autograph of Charlie Watts is usually the one

that tells you if the Stones autographs are forgeries. People often ask what he actually signs...?

The answer is "Love CB". In the past he used to sign "Love Charlie Boy".

He was here in Finland some weeks ago and my 9 year old son got his autograph.

I'm sorry but in my opinion this is not even close.  It wouldn't matter to me if Jesus himself handed to you, it's not real.

Re Art of Music, i recently had to authenticate  a couple of items sold by that company to a collector over here in the UK. The collector bought them whilst on holiday and was taken by all the fabulous items they had on display.

Needless to say, both items have proven to be fake, and just to be sure, i also had a couple of other known dealers cst their eye over them to, and both had the same opinion as myself.

The buyer is still trying to get a refund, as the company have put all kinds of obstacles in the way, firstly insisting that they are checked by a 'forensic examiner' and one that is well known on these pages too!

The customer is still trying get a refund, not easy when you are thousands of miles away, but it looks as though by going via the credit card company route, we will get there.
