As far as autograph collecting and music fan experiences goes, I find the range of stories I hear about various meet & greets to be pretty fascinating. I've heard of people paying modest fees (or nothing) for wonderful, fun experiences - and other stories of fans shelling out large amounts of money for a massive disappointment. And, of course, everything in between.
I thought we should have a comprehensive thread on the topic. Have you been to a pre-show or post-show meet and greet or know someone who has? Was it a bargain or a ripoff? What was the mood - structured and hurried or casual and fun?
My favorite band does meet and greets at every headline show they perform on this tour, chosen at fandom by fans who sign up for their fanclub and enter the show-specific drawing. There is no charge, and (usually) I don't believe a show ticket is even required. They were asked about this in an interview early this tour, and the response from one of the band members, Martin, was pretty passionate about musicians who charge high prices for meet & greets. FYI: I get that this band isn't quite a household name yet, so there might be a sentiment of "Who are they to say . . ." However they have an interesting perspective as both successful musicians with Top 10 records and huge music fans themselves).
Here's that portion of the interview:

Hi Everyone,
Just come back from Edinburgh from the "An Experience With Arnold Schwarzenegger" event and I paid for a photo upgrade to meet Arnold Schwarzenegger, which was in essence a brief meet and greet.
Arnold was perfectly polite and I had a great photo taken with him - for what the price was, it was worth it as he could charge literally thousands if he wanted to for an opportunity like that and it was a Christmas and Birthday present intertwined.
I just can't believe I met him - one thing you only dream of.
Enjoy!
Wow, that's one you don't see often. What else did the experience involve?
Hi everyone,
You could buy a framed Arnold autograph for £150 which was basically a display with his signature with other pictures, a montage, in essence.
They also did a charity auction where the pieces went for thousands. One was his cybernetic head from the Terminator, another was a really cool Terminator Genisys display, which was one of a kind as it was made entirely out of nails. There were other lots too but these were the most memorable examples.
I had a silver pass and we went in, had dinner, then they did the charity auction and raffle. Later, they had a celebrity interviewer who with respect, I've never heard of, Jenni Falconer. She was very nice and then they did an awesome five minute introduction of Arnold into the room and they did an interview where you learnt more about the lesser known side of his life. The audience asked questions and then those with a photo upgrade were allowed to go up and have their photo taken with him - we were all so excited and I was delighted to get a photo - truly once in a lifetime.
It was a black tie event hence me in dinner costume which doesn't happen often, lol, but I am over the moon to meet Arnold Schwarzenegger as this was a big thing for me as I am a massive fan.
You could buy VIP packages which include a more intimate meet and greet and front of house seats right by the stage and you could get a photo upgrade, which, for me, was a reasonable price. I got silver and that made the evening.
Very nice!
Thanks Ian - I am a big fan of Arnold Schwarzenegger and to meet him and get an autograph is a dream come true. Still pinching myself to be honest.
Do you live in Scotland Robin?
