What do collectors look for when buying a desirable set of signatures or signature?

Also on the opposite foot what make's an autograph undesirable, besides being forged.

Very true, i never really thought about that. It certainly does bring a bit of life to the piece.
To me, the quality of the signature (boldness, fluidity) is the most important thing. I would rather have very nice autograph on just a piece of paper than an ugly autograph, or a faded one, on a more prominent item such as an album or photo. Of course, I'd rather have both. I like to have my cake and eat it too!

Yep. Some people say they rather have a signed album than a piece of paper. Makes sense. Going back to the earlier, would you rather have that miserable scribble that looks nothing like her writing, or something like this one a piece of paper?

I would extend this topic.... what are your tips for obtaining best possible (the nicest possible) autograph? :) How ideal "in-person" autograph should look like?

Great idea, thanks.

Honestly, I think a tactic that sometimes works is to ask for a personalization. Not always effective, but sometimes. I asked Warpaint to sign "To Rich," and I noticed they all signed much more nicely than some of the faster scribbles I'd seen on Ebay.

Some of these guys should ask for a personalization that says, to ebay!

Bono did that at the 2006 Barnes and Noble book signing. Too many Ebayers crashed the offical fanclvb signing, and Larry Mullen got a bit irked.

That sux. Give the fans a go.

They're always goof to the fans, and they did sign very nicely at that sit down signing. Emails were supposed to go only to selected fanclub members, but people cashed in.
