To be honest i asked the seller to drop the price 50 dollars because i wasn't paying that for shipping, for what is essential a letter and he did.
Joe, so the sellers on ebay.com have a choice to use the gsp or not to use it?
Yes!

Global shipping is ebay's baby. The fact that most sellers in the US no longer wanted to deal with international shipping, due to ebay and paypal regulations.

Example I send a $200 autographed photo to Australia in a cardboard envelope with toploaders and sturdy packaging ....my minimum cost is about $20. This rate does not include insurance or tracking. My buyer in Australia, gets the package. Ebay doesn't know that and neither does Paypal. The less than honest buyer then opens a case with either company saying they didn't get it. Ebay and or Paypal take the money from the seller's account. The seller has no leg to stand on without signed for tracking or postal insurance.

So the USA seller has 2 options. #1 Priority Express Mail with tracking , signature and insurance...minimum cost $45-$55 (this is the USPS charge) doesn't include packing materials or any handling.

#2 Use Ebay Global Shipping, you charge the fee to get the item to Kentucky.....ebay then handles the rest....charging the buyer the ebay shipping rate + customs fees to get the item to the buyer.  The seller has already been paid, and has no risk.

Autographs are handled by the ebay Global Shipping method, but many items are not. The company I work for (in real life) handles coins, paper money, precious metals and jewelry.....all not handled by ebay's Global program.

No seller in their right mind would willingly risk shipping overseas anymore. Who can afford to lose both the item and the payment?

Ebay's Global shipping program is one way to help ebay grow overseas and make sellers feel safe about offering worldwide shipping.

I agree with you Pete. It protects the seller for sure.

We only have one option in Australia and thats priority mail tracked all the way, no second option.
As a buyer living in Sweden eBays Global shipping program is killing many deals.

I looked at a game worn NHL jersey which costed $300. Thanks to Global shipping program I would on top on that have had to pay $160 for shipping + import charges.

I passed...
That's far too much Jan by the sounds of it. So im kind of opinion with you on that.

Yes, they do but they have to make the choice before listing the item.

I'm not complaining about this but here is the last item I bought.

I made one photo sale using the GSP and it wanted to charge $21 to ship from the USA to England.  I thought that was outrageous so I went Han Solo and made my own delivery arrangements.  That was a big risk because eBay only protects the seller if they use GSP for international sales, but it went smoothly and cost only $13.  Still, that didn't stop eBay from charging me $2.10 (or 10%) as if I had used the GSP.  Since that experience I decided not to sell anything overseas which is unfortunate but for my purposes not worth the hassle.

I understand why Ebay sellers use the service. It saves them shipping costs and potential headaches and loss of revenue. I also understand why buyers dislike it as it adds cost to their shipping fees.

I choose to use the GSP because it makes sense from my perspective. But, for any members here that happen to do business with me, don't make a purchase from me off Ebay. Contact me here and I will work with you and save you money. Both in shipping and price. We both will benefit by doing it off Ebay. Their fees add up!!
