Looking for advice on authenticity of John Lennon signed photograph

Greetings from Sydney, Australia.

Please find above a jpg image of a unique piece of Beatles memorabilia that has come into my possession.

I am seeking advice/comments re the authenticity of whether this is indeed Lennon's handwriting. Ultimately I am looking to sell the piece, for the right price.

The story behind the image is as follows: - The photo was taken on April 30, 1964, at Scottish Television Studios in Glasgow.  Featured are Paul and John with Moira Briody and Larry Marshall who were the stars of another TV show produced at the same studios called “One O’Clock Gang TV Show”.  Larry and Moira came onto the set during a commercial break and this photo was taken.  It was signed at a later date and inscribed to Moira by (I am told) John, on behalf of John and Paul.

Here are the links to two brief videos which were filmed on that same day –

The photo comes direct from the estate of Moira Briody. The photo has been given to me by Moira’s sister, , who is living in Sydney.  I can easily obtain a ‘stat dec’ from her clarifying that the signed photo did indeed come from Moira’s personal collection/estate.

I have tried to do some investigations of my own re the autograph and although the ‘J’ does not exactly match other signatures I have found by Lennon, the loop on the ‘h’ is quite distinctive and matches his style of handwriting. From what I can see in other autographs, It appears the way he wrote the ‘J’ in his first name changed as years went by – as opposed to the later ‘loop’ he used a ‘line’ across the top of the bottom half of the letter ‘J’ – does this concur with anyone else's opinion?

I sent the item to the Australian Memorabilia Association for professional authentication. They have provided me with a COA, stating that in their opinion it is signed in Paul’s handwriting, not Lennon’s – but that’s not the story behind the image, as I was told it was John who signed the photo.

I would be grateful for any comments, and/or advice. The item in the original photograph (10 x 8 size) and unframed.

Kind regards,

Mark Kristian

The handwriting doesn’t look familiar to me, and I don’t recall ever seeing an example of either of them writing “John & Paul.” I don’t think either of them wrote it, unfortunately.

Thank you for your advice.

MG Kay,

I hate to say it, but this has no true characteristics of either John Lennon or Paul McCartney. They do not look like malicious forgeries. They look like signatures done by someone who wanted to make the recipient happy, not realizing that they were really doing anything wrong.

Thank you for your advice.

Paul or John did not write that.

Thank you for your advice.

Agree the signatures do not look genuine to me either. They don’t look like Neil Aspinall or Mal Evan’s signatures either.

Thank you for your advice.

I woulld say NO on this.

Thank you for your advice.

No Thanks...
