Michael Jackson drawings (Miscell inc. 'Historic portraits' and 'Disney characters')

I'm noticing a sudden influx of MJ signed Michael Jackson drawings coming on to the auction market, which seem to share the common themes of either 'portraits of historical figures'  or 'Disney characters'.

Both of these themes are of course recognised from Michaels' drawings both at a young age and later in life, but it is interesting that so many new drawings are being released on to the market at the same time.

Here are some current examples:

Plus Donald

plus Walt Disney

And this Frank Sinatra from Gotta Have Rock and Roll, Dec 14

I'm struck by all the 'false starts' and 'overdrawing' in the outlines to the two portraits, especially noticeable in 'Walt'.  This does not seem to be by a hand which is very assured at drawing, whereas Michael's drawings are usually quite bold and confident, even in pen.

I agree Lizzie.

WOW! No shame!

And MJ was such a better artist in any case.

Sad

I took and sorted them by signature style - these being the Loopy J's

Then I put just the sigs by each-other for the loopy J's

And something stands out, see the next set and I explain...

Marcel Marceau: Another 'loopy J' ...also from Mem vault, sent to MJWN on 3 Sept 14 (Epperson authenticated)

Do you think Epperson got it wrong Lizzie?

Then I took the ones with the straight J's and did the same thing.

And then again a collage of just those sigs

I see one thing in common with both sets

And that is that they look like they are all missing the regular i he puts in Michael.

Hi - approx 2/3's of the recent drawings showing up, have the similar characteristics to what I pointed out (I didn't include every drawing I've looked at, as there are quite a few).  I'm unsure what to make of all of it to be honest.  Does this mean he never signed like this?  No--I couldn't possibly say that.  But I have 100's of exemplars and in all of my exemplars, I didn't find anything like this.  I also want to reiterate, I am NOT an authenticator - I'm just pointing out something I personally noticed on these.

The other thing that seems odd with this, is the autos/sigs on these, comparing the big loopy J's and the straight J's, it seems to suggest two different time periods... yet the i is strangely missing in both sets.

I hope I'm wrong and that these are good.  But I have to point it out if I see it.

We also noted in another discussion that most if not all the pictures coming out can be laid over other pictures as if they were traced.  MJ was an extremely good artist, and its hard for several of us to accept that he suddenly started tracing pictures and calling them his own artwork.  But these are all just opinions.
